I prefer zoooooom too, not least as I have it installed so get more functionality. Will run in browser for those who don't tho.

    (I hate teams!)

@unhurt I have a colleague who has clearly decided to boycott teams - for chatter and doubling up emails. She does use the video link bit

The kids have been using Zoom for chatting to their colleagues. I'll need to teach the eldest how to take a screenshot of the chat window and email it to the parents of the one who thinks in it clever to swear.

Uninstalled Teams, reinstalled it and wound up on a 1:1 chat with boss instead of team meeting?

I hate Teams. It hates me.

wingpig. You can set Zoom to download the chat log from zoom meetings as "minutes" of the meeting. This not only downloads all the chat but also all the "private direct messages" between attendees as well. I suspect that potentially it might be a feature on paid chats, or something that you can do as the organiser.

I would prefer zoom as I think it handles more people a bit better than hangouts.

@wingpig, your kids have colleagues? You got them working for the organisation?

    @gembo

    Is your colleague secretly me?

We're supposed to be available via Skype all the time, so why I need Skype AND Outlook AND Teams running all at once, I do not know. I can't concentrate with a stream of pointless back & forth "ta :) :)" messages between colleagues draining my attention.

Colleagues have also set up a work chat group on WhatsApp. I refused to join...

I have GoTo which is same as Zoom without the groovy name and has been around longer. A private provider insisted on GoTo meet as they seem very averse to Skype for Business for some reason

@neddie could be GoTo Anti Zoom Propaganda

We were not allowed Zoom on work machines for sure

We were sent an email telling us not to use Zoom by someone who had been seen in a Zoom meeting the day before. If I'm not allowed to start work again until half nine tomorrow I might join in but otherwise I'll maybe prop the tablet up where my bay tree pigeon can join in as the first bit of the day is the most productive and least interrupted.

As @neddie says, Zoom on Mac is a particularly murky bit of software/malware that you really don't want to install. I don't know whether the other Zoom clients may also be somewhat dodgy?

In-browser use may be OK, but it should be noted that as a company, they certainly seem to have a bit of a fishy attitude to privacy and a vague attitude to security (whether deliberate or just nasty quick and dirty coding, who knows), see:

    https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/04/01/zoom_spotlight/

Given that so much "commercial" software seems to be cobbled together to meet a deadline, I think I'd probably be more inclined to trust something open source which has been developed gradually mainly for the intellectual fun of it, and probably with more attention to getting it right for that same reason?

I haven't done much more than give a brief look, but possibly these are worthy of investigation:

Last time I was in Canada I was left longing for someone to be rude or make fun of me. It's a genuine reason why I might not be able to live there.

My auntie does forget her adopted citizenship once in a while when no one else is around. My uncle is marooned in 'What, you can't say [insert racist term] any more?' territory.
