    MPS MkII is now currency.

    Petroleum jelly. So noted.

Main spindle, cranks, pedals, head bearings, fork, handlebars, brake levers, gear levers, front mech and rear mech fitted. Saddle fitted on seat post.

Oh, she is looking fine. Had to make a C-spanner for the bottom bracket lock ring.

    Postie delivered the stickers too.

Could not resist. Went for a short cross-chained spin with no brakes as I haven't put any cables on yet. Mighty fine. Great promise.

Mudguards are the work of Satan.

And it is 'SUNLIT Uplander' if ye dinnae mind?

The work of Satan as in 'vital, but a pain to fit' or do you not agree with the concept of them?

Given time trugent IWRATS spent finagling my old fenders, I’d say the former

Oh boy the stickers are on. I think I'm in love. Katie is alive and wants to ride.

Restoration pretty much complete. Glue on the chainstay protector needs to dry and the head badge needs to come from Ebay.

But here she is. Pics don't do the paint job justice. She is beautiful.

Many thanks to @wingpig for the wheels and tyres. She rides an absolute treat. It was a pleasure to work on a nice solid, simple drive train. The mudguards took about three times as long to get right.

    Nice job.

Deserves the (correct) 531 decals - especially if it had ones on forks.

    @chdot

I kind of felt it was like the PhD thing - if you need to tell people you have one you shouldn't have one.

I considered the Reynolds decals, but honestly I'm just glad Katie emerged from the Hendersons paint shed. Did not fancy trying to coordinate getting decals under lacquer.

In reality, most bikes with 531 stickers didn’t use lacquer.

Used to be “waterslide” - some are even being recreated -

Never been convinced about some of the NOS claims about 531 decals, but generally I’d go for ‘authenticity of period’ above ‘genuine original’.

Of course on one of mybikes, the 531 stickers are hiding under masking tape.

The notional reason is that I’m still refining the equipment, but the truth is I quite like the stealth appearance!

If I could get 'on top of lacquer' 532 stickers I'd put them on no doubt. The Falcon head tube badge will be a nice touch.

    Yes

Get the correct one(s) - were there any on the forks?

How will you feel when she has fledged and flown the nest?

I will feel sad and proud and worried, like I imagine parents feel when the kids leave home.

I know she'll get filthy and bits will wear out and crashes and theft are a risk but such is the life of bicycles. I will have done my best and the important thing is that my pal understands the gesture.

Is he aware it’s not gone for scrap?

Not yet. He will only know this when I turn up at his house riding her.

The 531 decals came through the post from H Lloyd Cycles. Stickers actually, which is even better as they go over the lacquer. Lovely quality.

Do you think he’ll remember the frame number...?

531 stickers applied. Will photograph. That was indeed the correct call.
