    When the Tiling Magnate bought Splash Bathroom Warehouse ENgine Shed he closed the public access to the WoL path that starts at His Mattnesses bike shop. Mr Tile argued he had put in perfectly acceptable alternatives. They are alright but @Neddie and the council have insisted he open his gates so the public can get through. He hasn’t until now.

    There is ongoing maintenance of drains? So in an ironic twist his new path does help the path stay open as you go up it a tad. Then through his two gates then on yer way.

    Bizarrely for someone so on the ball Councillor Webber thinks his gates are open out of kindness. They are in fact supposed to be open. Same councillor also thinks cyclists should dismount. This is fine but not necessary if you ar careful you can cycle up the wee slope then wait for any errant Peds then cycle down through his property as God, the council and @Neddie intended. I did this without any issues apart from some dirty looks but then I had my Stetson on as was cycling to band practice.

    That’s a bit unfair to suggest it’s only neddie & the council “insisting” on the gates being opened. A form of “othering”, like the lycra louts trope.

    Many many people around the world are disgusted by the concept of gated communities & the appropriation of rights of way / public access.

    Brown envelopes?

    And that particular councillor boils my blood

    @chdot, ah well. All of my Hail Marys including the ones I have just said are somewhat ironic in that I am of the Atheist Religion. THis is it, it ain’t no rehearsal and we do not get another shot.

    I was through there on Thursday and had a little chuckle that he had to open his gates and completely ignored the dismount signs.

    I am very tired because I just spent the night in Dunoon without intending to but I am also laughing like a drain.

    @IWRATS, miss the last ferry?

    Also can you link this remark to Susan Webber and Juni Green WoL Path? Ah yes Drains. Gotcha.

    Yes the Rest and be Thankful washed away again and the rain was making the automobile hard to control fully. Missed the last ferry by minutes.

    Still, got to chat with the Youth who had come home from Weeg by the first passenger ferry this morning. They had little wheelie suitcases with their clubbing outfits in and they were still loved up big time.

    Used to know two lovely men who lived at various points of the Cowal Peninsula but whose penchant for a few sherbets After work often led to somewhat drunken drives for the last ferries and err indeed ultimately divorces for them both. Also met a guy when I was maybe 20 in Dunoon who had cycled there. Mad I thought there is a decent ferry but now I see the error of my ways.

    I didn’t take much time convincing her
    Baby, I’m from the Cowal peninsula

    Half Man Half Biscuit's 'Lilac Harry Quinn'. A guy I know who is now the CEO of a Chinese life assurer rode a Harry Quinn when we worked in the same office. Not sure if he appreciated what a gem he had. Mind you married a girl who suddenly became an air hostess for Beardy.

    @IWRATS small world - I am an ex-flatmate of said chap. As you will know, he was more into sailing than cycling

    @Murun

    Then you will know that he is as much a gem as the Harry Quinn. I will confess to a great fondness for that guy.

    @iwrats - certainly mutual - we flat inhabitants were often regaled with your latest escapades over a Friday night curry in the Himalaya. You were referred to without fail with your middle initial in place. Then, as often as not, the (possibly) Nepalese swine would try to fleece us by adding the bill up wrong. Ill-judged trick to pull on actuarial students

    Must admit, at book launch I wondered if it was the same AB

    Being interested in access issues, and having odd gaps during the day waiting for tests to run, I exchanged a few emails with Cllr W*bb*r about her misinformed tweet. I tried to point out that no landowner permission is required for any of those paths on the diversion, but she now claims the developer built most of them (A, B and E on the diagram) and we should be grateful.

    I didn't bother with the pointless cyclists dismount thing though she did bring it up, clearly quite pleased with herself.

    @urchaidh, he did build them as part of his attempt to create the gated community. It is not fully gated as you can see in all the windows from the path. But he has stiolen what was a public route.

    The issue is that he did not build the new paths to a sufficient standard and was therefore required to open the gates but has hitherto declined. Cllr W should know this - the planning dept. have the records.

    He also owns all the waste ground to the west and what is going on there is quite mysterious.

    @gembo I'll defer to your local knowledge, but I'm fairly sure the path to the east is marked on maps from before the development, and included on the planning application drawings as outwith the sit boundary.

    The path to the west certainly predates the application, though it was little more than a desire line when work started. I think it had been a better track previous to that. The developer certainly did improve it when they tried to close off the other access.

    @urchaidh yes eastern path he cleared but western path he made. Little spur from the road he stole.

    Notice the beautiful nice smooth road versus the muddy gravel track.

    It annoys me literally every time I go past that a developer has blocked off a public path with good surface and street lights, put in a sh*tty mud slide "replacement" and seems to have gotten away with it. I was half wondering about trying to crowd fund an injunction (maybe along accessibility lines).

    It's awkward to see a councillor praising them for obeying the law. I assume ignorance rather than anything untoward, although you never know.

    Was down there today, the sign said dismount if using the path so duly took the road only to find that stupid great gate locked again.

    Aye its a mess further along where they're doing sewer work.

    Passed a load of people doing this Trek for Dodie appropriately spaced so's not to take over the path.
