I can feel the org’s pain, had similar with my 200 (as well as the usual C*vid issues)

False alarm. Going ahead but with slightly altered routes where necessary

As others said: Talla-Ho! was lovely ride, through some new roads to me. Thanks @edinburgh87! Nice to see @panyagua (second weekend in a row!) and @Frenchy.

Didn't get to see @amir even at the start this time...

I had to drive to the start as my carbon steerer bung failed earlier in the week, then the new one failed to arrive on Friday and I got a borrowed one fitted only just before the ride. It was a 15min drive -- very convenient!

@amir, could have been worse. The Ho’s Audax is a good draw in Compton I hear.

Can't train my way to Musselburgh on Sunday in time for the ToEL starting, presumably because of strikes, so I'll need to travel by c*r. Does anyone ave any ideas on where might be best to park? Would Wallyford P&R be a safe bet?

I presume the Half Marathon is an issue. They seem to be using the P & Rs. It seems to start at 11am so you may have an edge! Given you have a bike, your options are open. One might be to park near Cowpits (near Whitecraig) and bimble down the lovely riverside path.

Planning to do Etape Caledonia on Sun. Have left arrangements until last minute, so no accommodation etc and was planning on sleeping in car at the recreation ground. Can't find any detail as to whether this is permitted. Wondered if anyone had any knowledge/past experience?

@basecut are they still making you register the night before?

I did it the year it was sabotaged by the wee free man I ac

    2009? Really?

We stayed over but people were driving up on the day early. Big tailback into Pitlochry.

Sleep in a car south of Pitlochry somewhere. Cycle in to Pitlochry for the start?

@basecut sleeping in a car not ideal prep for the etape. Drive back home? Sleep in own bed, get up early drive towards Pitlochry, park to sout( and cycle In or borrow a tent and pitch beside car?
Shame not today, light winds though they were always headwinds and sunny going round Shiplaw and Eddleston to Peebles then Cadrona, Innerleithen, Cafe No1 Peebles Road controversially shut, we had determined to avoid it as thought would be busy as Tweedlove is on, but owner at Nashy’s in Cadrona where we did refuel said the festivals don’t bring in business as all kept on site

    Nashy's for sale?

For those on the ToEL, I recommend Diggory's in Haddington

No mention of it being for sale though some mention of no staff and parents or in-laws helping.

Helping is a very rough description.

Meant I left a fairly ok tip but also was given an empire biscuit for free.

Tomorrow's ToEL is my first audax. Learning the ropes. What's the difference between information control and free control?

    Posted 3 years ago #

You'll get a wee card with a list of the controls. At the information controls, it'll be a question like "What's the name of the pub on the left when you enter the village?". So you might want to bring a pen with you.

At a free control, you'll want to get a receipt/ATM slip that shows you've been to the town/village. I think "free" here is because you have free choice of where you get your receipt, as opposed to, for example, having to go to a particular cafe to get your card stamped.

In france the free control defaults to the bike shop in town. In Scotland it defaults to the bakery (in my experience of two Angus Audaxes)

The info control I remember was what does it say on the wall in Edzell. Those mad Aberdeenshire towns like Edzell and Fettercairn still have the old town gates.

Thanks team CCE. I'll raid the bakeries whether they are on the list or not

    Well done, CocoShepherd!

I have just signed up for next year's Turra Coo, a 300km event starting/finishing in Nairn. I'm filing this in the "Will certainly regret signing up for this pile". My parents live only a few miles off the route about halfway round, so I may even manage to combine it with a flying visit home.

On the other hand, I've only ever done two Audaxes, and one of them was a 300...

New 100k "CrystAAAl Rigg" for 2022 (19/March) for anyone looking to dip their toes. Short enough not to occupy a whole day, but hilly enough to be at least as hard as most 200s. Aiming for a hall start and finish, so T&C at the finish:

Should be enterable on the AUK site in the next few days.

Interesting routes and comments. TBH any rider returning through Edinburgh at night on that route might be better just going straight down the A90 from Barnton to town, up Lothian Road and out to the South, but can see why that’s not on the route. Definitely wouldn’t fancy the NEPN at 3am!
