Firstly, obviously, support your local LBS.

However I have to say there are some stunning deals going around t'internet if you are looking for a complete groupset, or indeed other "sooo last year" items...

My Giant OCR is now sitting next to a shiny new black Shimano 105 groupset... and I'm going to enjoy some quality spanner twirling time soon :)

Oh don't make such a post on payday! Now I can't help but look. I fitted a 105 Crankset, BB and brakes to my old Trek, I was quite impressed with the results. The external BB cups need a special tool that I ended up buying (gave LBS some business at least!). If you want a borrow, let me know.

What defines a bargain as far as a groupset is concerned? My spare frame needs some components but I don't yet know whether to clad it in gilded newness it and make it my bestest bike or pop to a TBS parts sale.

50% of list price counts as a bargain in my book - but then it's all relative, depends how much it cost to begin with!

105 is a good performance / cost / quality compromise for road bikes I've found and went for it again when I got my CAAD9. But I wouldn't say it's "cheap".

As Kaputnik said, effectively 50% off. Albeit on an "out of date" set (looks again for rolling eyes smiley)
£315 delivered, not cheap, but for fresh brakes/gears/etc...

Of course don't tell swmbo whatever you do! ;-)

Oh btw, thanks for the offer Kaputnik but my MTB runs a Deore hollowtech so I already have the funny crinkly spanner :)

when she asks how much it was you just say "it was half price, dear" and smile

Of course, if SWMBO (or equally I guess, in these enlightened times, HWMBO) is also a cyclist you will receive either of these replies:

    • "Half price? You spent how much? What's wrong with Sora?"
    • "Half price? Wow! Are they doing Ultegra, too?"

She's not a cyclist, but I am a diver... which means she sees through such simple ruses and fears the worst lol

I have also been very bad. Very very bad.

But it will look good at the next coffee morning:

I'd like to say it made me 10mph faster this morning, but it didn't. Makes an excellent sound though.

And the tyre didn't roll off on the switchback by Duddingston...

Looks very much like my bike... with rtc in charge.

On way back we spotted 'something else'.

Is that a luminous rug on the rugg?

And what's with the "something else" in inverted commas? There should be no secrets here!

Its my natty waterproof trousers (it wasn't raining but I was otherwise in shorts and theres a limit to how many trousers i can fit in a trunk bag..) and the 'something else can be found on the 'spotted' thread.

Had a really great time today, I didn't think it was possible to love riding bikes more, but I was Oh So Wrong. The ICE trike is a flying armchair, with full suspension, and the best way I've found of describing the low racer is that is like riding a fish, feet first, down a very fast river. Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

LaidBack was a great guide and teacher, had me up and running very quickly (with only a little dent) and inspired confidence with his careful eye on the road and my riding. I had quite large expectations for my first adventure on a 'bent, and I had all of them exceeded. What you dont see in the above picture is the wall-to-wall grin on my face!

I rode my lowracer to work yesterday - the first time I've had it on the road since October.

It is frighteningly fast, especially compared to the hardtail I've been riding over winter.

As in, I was actually afraid.

Good description... everyone will want to do it!

Thanks for review... - also handy to discover the other way out of Portobello!

    I make it only £134.98.
I'm irritated by cheap frames as they make me think restoring my frame-in-the-loft is much more trouble than it's worth.
Option B (where restoration was option A) would be getting a cheap but steelier newframe (such as that above) to which to attach en masse my current bike's cheap hardware, give or take a front derailleur clamp or seatpost.

Starting to look nice :-) but I'm a bit worried as to whether my new calipers reach deep enough to act on the rims properly :-/ should know after a little allen key waving tonight...

I've checked my 105 blocks. They seem to have an asymmetric profile. It's a long shot, but try mounting the blocks upside down.
