Thanks @Boothym - I see that I wrote a lot of the notes for 2018 - although it wasn't the same as loading over 200 bikes in under 5 minutes at Leuchars for the 1978 Edinburgh-St Andrews Ride
From Scotrail, I can relay a hint that they'd appreciate a chat on making things run smoothly for those taking a train to POP or home, and possibly making sure that where possible trains will have the maximum number of coaches
If leverage can be applied, I'd note that the 20 bike 'dogboxes' which at present require 1 unit to make 2 round trips between Glasgow & Oban, and then swap over with another one of the 5, which should be available, are (or were) technically compatible with other diesel units, but I'm not sure if it could be turned around to put one on the Borders route and one on the Fife circle in the time available
For the first event the smart crew caught the newly introduced train going back via Carstairs & Motherwell with a reported 34 cycles on board carefully stowed
With managed loading extra bikes can be accommodated, in defined spaces. The 8-coach fast trains to Glasgow could stow up to 40 bikes per train
Electrics also now running to Dunblane & Alloa, and to Glasgow Central High Level
Think also of the coach and bus services which can get people home, especially if their use is also managed (so boarding the Perrymans/Borders 235/62/95, plus coaches to Fife & Glasgow only at St Andrew Square bus station)
