this morning cycling along the innocent railway I almost fell victim to a robbery. Police have been called and are hopefully on their way but please avoid that cycle path this morning just incase!

3 young men, all white, all in tracksuits, one on a bike. 1 was waiting on the track, saw me, moved aside and got on the phone. 1 was waiting at the mouth on the tunnel on his bike, on his phone, saw me and started cycling into the tunnel. I was on an electric bike so I made sure to speed away from him as fast as possible. The last boy was waiting at the other end of the tunnel at the mouth. Once I cycled past the boy on the bike I heard his bike stop and about 45 seconds later the boy at the mouth of the tunnel moved aside. By the time I got out the other side, he was hiding behind a bush.

This is an attempt to pin people in the tunnel, possibly for robbery so please avoid it until later today once the police have had time to disperse them.

This is quite worrying from the perspective of potential robbery or assault, as if a gang does try to trap someone in the tunnel there is no way out, and if nobody else is passing by, no way that you can be seen from anywhere else.

Perhaps there needs to be CCTV watching both tunnel entrances, closely monitored from St Leonards Police Station, which is close enough nearby that they can quickly take action when any suspicious activity is seen?
