Although this was filmed today, the one-way section of Braid Road opened to two-way traffic yesterday. (There is a fault with the crossing that will be fixed.)

I will miss the bike lanes, but not the delays to public transport we saw on Comiston Road.

He’s still blaming Greens & SNP for reopening.

All going well at Brunswick Rd:

“This is completely lawless and ridiculous. You could get £10,000 fines in a day here — and they should.
No left turn; these drivers are going when pedestrians have a green man to cross. Nuts.
    #Edinburgh”

Councillor Scott Arthur told the Evening News: “I spent some time today observing traffic behaviour at this junction. Whilst I don't claim to be a perfect driver, some of what I saw was horrendous.

“Road layouts can always be reviewed and the police can improve enforcement, but what I saw today was brazen law breaking on the part of a minority of drivers who put their convenience before the safety of others. Their licences should be revoked.

    “licences should be revoked“

    Is that a thing?

I have been up and down Comiston and Braid Roads today. No obvious reduction in traffic on Comiston Road. The temporary pedestrian crossing on Braid Road was turned off. I can see a rat run developing along Greenbank Place-Hermitage Drive-Braid Road, which avoids the lights at Greenbank Crescent and queues on Comiston Road, which could become quite nasty and make access to the Greenbank-Meadows quite route quite tricky from the south.

I suppose one positive of SA is that he has a GoPro so we can see some videos of the Leith Walk/London Road illegal left turns - including a crazy piece of driving at 40s.

Drivings standards are now so low they can't even break the law correctly.

Leith Walk (may or may not just be London Rd junction) -

The TTN Team, CEC and Police Scotland made solid progress on this today - full details (and some changes) coming tomorrow.

    @acsimpson, this is very accurate.

So bad it is random and inexplicable stuff now, not just MGIF or Right Hooks.

Obvious solution. Put a bus gate in on the approach. Why have cars driving alongside a 200 million tram line? Will also help reduce delays on one lane sections further down

Someone has just been hit at the London Road junction. Victim and witnesses are heading to Gayfield Police Station. (I was in Toppings at the time but saw the aftermath). Hit and run.

Gandalfing in action, though not completely successful. Maybe they need an old bike as drivers might be more concerned about damage to their car than to humans.

Time for the Council to deploy the tank traps they briefly had out on Waverley Bridge a couple of weeks ago.

Banned Left Turn on to London Road

The changes to the road layout at the London Road junction are designed to improve public transport efficiency, and protect pedestrians. These improvements are clearly signed, with seven signs in place on approach. Anyone contravening the rules is breaking the law, as well as endangering the safety of themselves and other road users. Ignoring the ban on left hand turns is extremely selfish, and I would urge drivers to take heed of the changes and follow alternative routes.

concerns are arising around the operation non-tram element which were agreed by the last Council administration

The obvious solution to the issue of illegal left turns endangering cyclists and pedestrians is to stop all traffic on Leith Walk when the green man/bike shows on the London Road crossing. It would have an impact on traffic flow along Leith Walk - but surely that wouldn't matter given pedestrians and cyclists are at the top of the transport hierarchy...

This just reinforces previous posts -

Some people are unclear on how the turning restrictions on Leith Walk were approved.

The Aug 2021 report on the consultation is here:

The jury is still out on this, but after standing at the junction for 30 minutes today I don't feel bollards alone are the solution. I will share a video later.

Not sure why they didn't use the more sturdy Orcas recently removed from Braid Road instead of those flimsy things... not that I think it'd make much of a difference. Maybe the "hostile vehicle mitigation" spikes they had on the mound!

    Leith Walk/London Rd Update:
    1. The 3 bollards installed today didn't have the anticipated impact.
    2. The bollards will be maintained until a more robust set is installed (tomorrow at the latest).
    3. A CEC camera will be used to report all apparent law breaking to the police.

They can't believe they made the mistake of expecting people would respect the law & pedestrian safety!

I had the misfortune to make several journeys yesterday across the south-west and north.

I have never seen such terrible driving. every junction with yellow hatching Lothian Rd, Princes St, Queen St was blocked when it went green. I was able to get through but not the cars behind me.

Some particularly bad driving by drivers who didn't know the roads/lanes/lights on Dundee/Morrison.

Bus lanes were a joke, blocked by parked cars. Vans parked on corners/double yellows. in the west bound Slateford lane bike lanes.

but worst close call was a jogger (tall, athletic bloke) who launched himself into the slateford bike lane as I was heading east after Shandon. I was going downhill pretty fast with heavy panniers slammed on brakes and screamed. he launched himself back onto the pavement in time to avoid being hit.

Probably wrong thread (especially the last bit), but led to me reflecting a lot on the futility of assuming drivers will pay attention to road markings (or common sense).

This might as well go here

Following community concerns, today @EdinPolNE community officers were at Leith Walk at London Road. No road users attempted the no left turn during the officers presence. Many members of the community stopped to speak with the officers to discuss local and wider topics.
