Maybe there’s a plan to have a Scottish version of this??

I will launch the Parking Action Plan today. This will acknowledge the need to manage parking and loading better on key routes.

I can't find the promised plans anywhere online. Have I missed something? After all, the Council isn't really known for issuing things after 5pm on a Friday.

This will take significant investment, and to help demonstrate the need for funding from the Scottish Government we will build a formal business case which helps confirm the economic and wellbeing benefits.

I'm kinda surprised by all the support/interest there is for a ferry link to Kirkcaldy from Edinburgh.

    He’s obsessed with blame shifting

I'm frustrated by the state of the roads & footpaths in Edinburgh, but I hate seeing Council staff getting the blame.

The reality is that Scot Gov cuts mean road and footpath maintenance is underfunded across Scotland.

SG does underfund LAs, but don’t think it earmarks/ringfences money for potholes etc.

My aim - Within 10 years Edinburgh will be one of Europe's sustainable transport capitals.

The line through Picardy Place will be complete but the public realm works there are not formally part of the project, but are on track.

Does he really believe that yet another report makes this stuff true?

By putting improving walking & connections to public transport first in our Active Travel Action Plan, we're firmly establishing "walking & wheeling" at the top of Edinburgh's Transport Hierarchy.

I'm on your side if you walk, use a wheelchair or get pushed around in a buggy.

Presume he’s got driver recruitment/retention sorted?

I can remember pre-covid and the city was congested then too. Encouraging more folk to use the bus is the answer.

    Such simplicity…

    1. Edinburgh is the most congested city in the UK.
    2. Before Christmas land for up to a further 37,000 houses was allocated in Edinburgh.

If encouraging people to use public transport more isn't a solution to these problems, what is?

Many thanks to STV's @LauraAlderman_ for summing up what's being discussed at TEC next week!

This meeting could turn out to be a pivotal moment for Edinburgh in its transition towards a leading sustainable transport capital, and the economic benefits that will bring.

His solution to Spokes' absolutely justified point that a network "for all ages" that has stretches shared with buses is no such thing seems to be...put language nodding to that issue in the document, but not actually addressing the conflict with the still-present assertions that the cycle "network" will have to give way to buses wherever there's a conflict(a conflict nearly always caused by a complete lack of will to take space away from private cars).

The man's a living Mitchell & Webb sketch parody of a councillor.

The Transport Hierarchy is established policy at all levels of government. What's changed is that I view transport as a system and I'm wary of the unintended consequences of even well intentioned change.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/cllrscottarthur/status/1619701287607586817?

Well, it would be a good start if the Council could just get round to delivering some of their intended consequences.

New 'gamechanger' Edinburgh plans: Edinburgh will easily be leading Scotland if we get these plans approved – and that's just the start. In terms of sustainable transport, if we pull these things off, we will be one of the leading European cities.

    But of course.

Cllr Arthur said Scottish Government funding could now be spent promoting walking-only schemes, rather than only walking and cycling schemes. About quarter of the £1bn budget –£250m – would go to walking-only schemes, another quarter to support cycling and £500m on combined schemes.

He said: “The scale of that investment, even over ten years, is quite daunting. Given the recent history in Edinburgh, I acknowledge personally that we need to rebuild trust around a lot of this stuff, so just like we did with the tram line to Newhaven, we will build a business case for the active travel investment, which will be objective and look at the net benefits to the economy, to wellbeing, to businesses and also the disabled community because at times over the last five years I think they have been left feeling marginalised and isolated due to some of the decisions that were made.

Edinburgh is the most congested city in the UK

Is there any data to support that assertion? I remember when I moved to Edinburgh from That London in the late nineties, I found it quite amusing listening to Edinburghers complaining about the "terrible" traffic, when it wasn't anything like as bad as what I'd left behind in London. Since then, of course, London has got congestion charging and Edinburgh car usage has just gone up and up, so maybe the good Councillor's claim has some validity behind it these days?

The source for that is TomTom: https://www.tomtom.com/traffic-index/ranking/?country=UK

Not sure how it's calculated, or if they even say how it's calculated.

The vast bulk of this work will need external funding. I'm open to working with all parties to find cash for road and footpath maintenance.

Councillors are to get a 2.7% pay rise (as agreed by Holyrood). I won't be pocketing this money whilst Council services are being cut by the same people.

Transport convener Scott Arthur said: “I understand the emotion about this and I do have that emotional attachment to the bridge as well. But the reality is this bridge is going to cost a quite a lot of money to restore and that money has to be found. Demolishing the bridge is the cheapest thing to do, but as far as the community is concerned I am not convinced it is the right thing to do. It will boil down to councillors noting the costs of the different options and agreeing the best way to address this during the budget setting process.”

The plans will only happen with external funding, and I feel that by encouraging more walking they will take the pressure off the NHS.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/cllrscottarthur/status/1620695094889259008

    Well yes.

Once again it’s unclear if SA is using twitter as his main way of getting his ‘message’ to the public and/or SG.

CEC has produced a Grand Plan - unclear how much would/wouldn’t have been done without SA’s encouragement.

It’s far from clear if any of the required money ‘exists’ in SG/TS/Sustrans budgets.

Is CEC/SA having any useful discussions away from twitter??

“I feel that by encouraging more walking they will take the pressure off the NHS“

I KNOW this would - and decent cycling infrastructure plus reduced car use and more PT would help too.

BUT that all requires action on policies that exist to some extent but there is not much sign of being implemented or funded.

SA isn’t even advocating Congestion Charging for Edinburgh. He could find a way to blame SG if it didn’t happen.

Still unclear if he is just playing Party Politics or a Twitter Addict without a clue.
