walked along the event with an open mind - it was mostly parents with kids. I have to say, however, that it did appear to result in fair bit of infantile and unsafe driving in the surrounding streets... which may have had some influence on this collision.

Reply to plan to FOI cost of event to CEC -

Don't bother, I think the answer will be nil or some notional sum.

Getting Edinburgh back on track - I'll table plans this week for:

1 Dedicated resources for year-round maintenance of the dedicated path & cycleway network.

2 Increase in machinery being dedicated to pavement sweeping.

    3 A proactive approach! See:

The #Gumball3000 event in Edinburgh this weekend has been an interesting experiment. I've not had a single complaint about the loss of parking or any resultant congestion. In a small way, this will help inform our plans for the street.

SA made a good speech at the Spokes Bike Breakfast this morning - ironic though that you couldn't hear him above the incessant noise coming from traffic bombing down the historic world heritage Royal Mile

Suppose depends what you define as good.

His suggestion that DBegg ‘took the public with him is fanciful.

More worrying is the idea that he wants to get public support again, ESPECIALLY as the speech also said ‘climate change is real’, ‘we’ve got lots of plans being consulted on’, ‘7 years to 30% traffic reduction’.

If he can get public support that's great and not impossible. Various consultations have shown that most people do want some sort of change. The hard task is getting that support to be vocal enough to drown out the small minority of people who would rather fiddle while Rome Edinburgh the world burns.

More important though is having the confidence to make the changes which are required and have been shown elsewhere to be increase massively in popularity after they have bedded in.

He did confuse everyone by getting Shona Mackintosh's name wrong (and I spotted he was wearing a rather fancy, if rather beat up Goretex Shakedry so well prepared for Scottish summer weather).

It does feel to me like we're currently at a bit of a tipping point in terms of infrastructure and it demonstrating it's benefits. We just need to keep rolling more out and joining it together. Unfortunately Leith Walk is a bit of a spectacular own goal but CCWEL looks to be a far better example going forwards (trying to keep positive for once!).

yes, the giving credence to climate sceptics was a bit disappointing (as if they are anything other than a very small minority of nut-jobs)

but also good to see him wearing a "climate stripes" t-shirt

also disappointing to hear Sarah Boyack with the "fix the potholes" popularist BS

One of the lesser-known advantages of segregated cycling infrastructure. (In theory) there will be less HGVs and buses so far less likelihood of potholes :-)

I say in theory as Leith Walk probably disputes this

Dr Hobday of the Caymen Islands has applied retrospectively to convert 4 Spylaw House (25 Spylaw Street, EH13 0JU) into a short-term let (Airbnb type accommodation).

Community involvement is at the heart of good urban design. Leaving it to technocrats alone will lead to failure.

    For example:

    WARNING: parallel universes

LDs motion was widely discussed & they'd say my amendment simply clarified their aim & added a report date.

Greens knew I'd work with them if they offered a solution on the QR / Comiston Rd connection, but they did not even make an offer.

Key issue is poor cross-party working.

    https://twitter.com/cllrscottarthur/status/1669797934999674890

Notwithstanding all this, all five parties are now incredibly close on these schemes. The devil is in the detail of course, but further votes are to come.

"Key issue is poor cross-party working."

Who could have predicted that with a tiny minority administration with no formal coalition

It was "lost" when the SNP/Greens rejected my amendment (with your support) 10 months ago. All that happened on Thursday was that the same amendment was accepted

I certainly didn't exclude anyone, but this is something I have committed to looking at following the comment about your all male deputation.

Can I gently suggest you stop digging & deflecting @CllrScottArthur ? @jonburkeUK has an experienced, expert voice which should be carefully listened to, alongside the excellent @blackfordsafer1 . Esp’y if you actually want a reputation for effective support of Active Travel?

Main speaker, Cllr Arthur, said his motivations as Transport Convener included – the climate crisis and the growth of conspiracy theories; catering better for people on lower incomes and for people with disabilities; and building greater trust and cooperation with other political parties and with local groups such as Community Councils.

Many thanks to @CorstorphineCC for hosting a 2 hour Q&A session on the Corstorphine Connections project tonight. There were lots of useful & constructive comments to help inform the project. I'm happy to attend future CC meetings to ensure the decision making is transparent.

Most people wanted to understand how past consultations informed the decision to proceed with the scheme, and the structure for considering feedback going forward. The bus gate was the measure discussed most.

The lower cost segregation being installed on Holyrood Road looks pretty good.

    Lower cost then?

On the cheap or a sign that a rollout can be speeded up??

Ha, thought as Provost Baillie Prof Scott was tweeting would be open?

This is near the end of my daily commute and has been stuck like that for weeks and weeks.

    Stick down works fast

Maybe have to leave two months for glue to set? In better news just up from there on my daily commute through moray house and oldest Masonic purpose built proddy temple, is cycllable again. Also not finished but is cyclable.
