Anyone know if this is now fully open?.
Was meant to be open in the spring but a few weeks ago it seemed there was still quite a lot of work remaining.
Thinking of a jaunt -Granites - Innerleithen,Innerleithen to Peebles by cycle path and thence to Eddleston then on back roads at Waterheads via Gladhouse and Temple
But hate the ghastly A703 with its crap road surface and infernal traffic
Not doing it again until the new path is open!

The worst road surface is between Eddleston and Waterheads though...

I don't think it will be open yet either. Perhaps consider returning via the Meldons?

Assume it's not fully open, some tweets showing the progress:

Had no idea this was happening - a pleasant surprise when I drove past it in the car and realised it must be a cycle path (I had previously assumed the first bit I saw was a building site access or utility works.) Excited to try it when it opens!

I’ve heard that the Edddleston Water path be open in full before end of July.

Doesn’t look like it will be open by the end of the month!
Rode alongside it this afternoon and not a workie to be seen
Can’t see any progress since I was last there about three weeks ago
Hope it’s not stalled due to financial issues

According to Sustrans on Facebook, will be ready for Winter 22/23.

In other news, the old coach Road parallel to the A7 is closed for 3 weeks near Ferniehirst, due to repairs to a culvert. Diversion is on the A7 between Bow Bridge and Stow. A braver person might try to proceed on the temporary track built for access to the works.

Cycled alongside it again today and zero progress
Same state as two months ago and no activity at all
Hope it isn’t the case ,but looks like an abandoned project just now

Could”d see path is finished from Meldons today. Spoke to a chap at Polish map of Scotland who says they are just waiting on bridges.

Was down that way last weekend - I ignored the cones and signs at Eddlestone and cycled the path southwards until I came to an incomplete bridge after just 1/2 mile - Was nice whilst it lasted! Had to jump the barbed wire fence and I re-joined the road for the rest to the way into Peebles. Looked like one of the laybys is also closed off (being used for equipment storage).

At last a few men at work on the path again this afternoon
Some steel beams now placed across a couple of the streams ready for concrete
However all seems a bit half hearted
At about 3.15 when I passed ,the few workies on site were locking up the barriers and b off home
Looks like At least another couple of months at this rate
Obviously a very low priority for this local council

“… the footpath to Eddleston should be completed by mid-November” according to the draft minutes of Peebles Community Council meeting of 13.10.22, although I cannot vouch for anything the Community Council says.

This OSM relation shows the route: https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/10616470

Wonder how long it'll take them to get working on designing the next section northwards...

Construction has been going on for so long that parts can be seen on Google street view:
    Peebles
    Eddleston
    bridge site

The next section northwards (to near Leadburn junction) was designed and got planning approval in 2009. This may have lapsed if no works were carried out within a few years

I cycled down to Peebles on Saturday and as you say it is not finished yet. Some bridges in place but still fenced off. But i was glad to see the path was not covered in leaves/branches which I thought it might be the case.

@slowcoach's "Peebles" Streetview link is south of the route as shown on OSM.
Is that actually part of the route or just upgraded pavement?

Seems unlikely that the route would continue south of the Esso station, but at least at that point you can cut down onto Crossburn farm Road and some quiet routes into Peebles.

Good to see the route goes as far north as the Shiplaw Road - has work actually started there yet? Don't remember seeing anything.

From the Shiplaw Road it should be possible to make it most of the way to Leadburn via this track...

...and then the path through the leadburn Community Wood.
Not sure what the surface of the path in the wood is like though?

    Another tweet showing progress: https://twitter.com/laebutler/status/1585653022000046082

The southern bit from Templebar shows some usage on Stava heatmap.

Is that actually part of the route or just upgraded pavement?
Don't recall that being on the plans but it looks a useful pavement upgrade and joins the cycle path here: https://goo.gl/maps/mF4p41M6cqWMriXg7
Not sure what the surface of the path in the wood is like though?
The surface seems to be like this: https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4734962 but the bigger issue is that it doesn't look like there's a proper connection for that path when it reaches the A703 (which severs the old railway line).

Another deadline whooshed past - the path is still not open (apart from some short sections?). There are some direction/distance signs up and more work done on bridges, but access is still blocked and path closed signs in place.

Had another go at following the path last weekend, starting at Eddelston (where you can easily go around the barrier). The first stretch is blocked you reach a new bridge about 1/2 a mile from Eddleston - the bridge looks complete so I don't known why it's still blocked. I then rejoined the road and skipped past the closed layby where they are keeping equipment and joined the path again beyond that. From there on the tarmac is complete(?) until just before the back road into Peebles, though blocked in one place by a gate and another by some fencing wire - it looks like they need to finish some of the fencing along the path and until then the local horse owners still need to fence off sections of fields. At the back road they are still to finish another bridge - this one definitely isn't complete.

There were still barriers and closed signs on this path yesterday (Sunday), but most had been opened, apart from 2 places where we (and several other users) had to push the bikes over the verge.

From last week’s Peeblesshire News “… following the imminent installation of the delineation markers at Eddleston Village the path will be fully open for use.” ‘Peebles Community Trust and Eddleston Community Council are planning an inclusive official opening event, likely to be in mid- June.’

Customer down there wants to sell their one year old e-cargo bike as path barriers were making its use impossible. I have asked for pictures - said it was impossible to get through even on foot pushing the bike. Maybe some of these are being opened up now... hope so.

@lb looked fine last week with exception of the Eddleston end which had heras fencing blocking the end. Hopefully fairly temporary
