@chdot - interesting read - seems to have been going for a year and first I've seen it. Has it been linked on here previously?
do you know who is behind this? It wasn't immediately apparent when I looked.

I skim it instead of bothering with Twitter, emailing councillors etc. directly - has saved me a lot of time and anguish

@dessert rat - the chap who writes it came along to that coffee place we used to go to a couple of months ago. Nice bloke - very tall, rides an Urban Arrow.

@Morningsider, cant remember the name of that coffee place anymore but there is a nice cafe right at the top of Middle Meadow Walk called CanoPY. Fortnight this friday?

These are absolutely fantastic, I feel like I'm fully up to date with the council's shenanigans but I only have to spend five minutes a week doing it, instead of hours reading council papers etc.

Lovely to hear :) Thanks for your kind words!

"+1" as the cool kidz say, to Dave's comments.
edi.bike is so much more digestible and readable than Spokes' website, which manages the impressive feat of being just as wall-of-text as the leaflets!
PS Is the 'flexipave' the same thing as the new surface on the WoL path at Colinton? That seemed to me to be quite high rolling resistance compared with tarmac, although I concede that it's better for walking/running and horses.

Can't have cyclists travelling too efficiently and quickly, under their own motive power now, can we?
Meanwhile, in motoring world: "Have as much power as you like! Unrestricted! But don't worry, we'll voluntarily restrict your speed to 155mph just so your tyres can cope (but also don't worry, you can easily work around this if you want)"

It will be interesting to see how "flexipave" ages. The NEPN, apart from a few short sections that were hit by tree roots, mostly has a very workable surface decades later. The WoL paving was only completed about a year ago IIRC, but already there are crews out patching the surface.

“mostly has a very workable surface decades later“
Yes, though it is clearly ‘on the way out’ in places.
The reason it has survived so well is because it was done by Lothian Regional Council which had the will (and money) to specify, and deliver, ‘to road standards’ - notably a proper/deep base for the tarmac.

The Pinkhill path was resurfaced not that long ago (maybe 10 years), but is already obliterated by tree roots

WoL path fixes are in just now, includes slalom round cones

“WoL path fixes are in just now“
That’ll be fixes on top of previous fixes?
It seems that the WoL ‘problem’ is finding a horse friendly surface?
Or is that a surface that doesn’t rile horse owners??
I don’t envy CEC’s attempts/intent to get this ‘right’, but generally the problem is mostly due to lack of basic maintenance - particularly drainage - but also leaf removal (when required, not just on some annual calendar date).
Basically: tarmac is objected to as a suitable surface on that section of the WoL path for reasons including gradient/cycle speeds.
That said, frequent ‘repairs’ suggests poor preparation/installation or unsuitable material (or both).
