Explore the landscape, explore the options; encouraging awareness of suicide prevention through an epic bike tour from Chiang Mai to Edinburgh.

Let’s move forward, one revolution at a time.

    Dear Cycling Edinburgh,

On April 15th of this year, CycleInstead project founder Abi Wingate and I will embark on a 15,000 km cycling journey across 19 countries. Our tour will begin in Chiang Mai, Thailand, bicycling over two continents for six-months until we reach our final destination of Edinburgh, Scotland. We will embark on this journey to raise awareness of suicide prevention and mental health issues. Our goal is to raise 20,000 pounds for our partner charity the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

Abi’s decision to cycle home to Edinburgh came about initially as a light-hearted rebellion to the modern day, mindless culture of button clicking-flight-booking-internet travel. Her personal experience with depression and the recent loss of a dear friend to suicide motivated her to raise awareness of, and money for, a suicide prevention organization.

CycleInstead aims to spread a simple message, no matter how hard life seems there are always options. On December 14th Abi launched the CycleInstead website (http://www.cycleinstead.com) which has already received over 10,000 hits. The Edinburgh Evening News has featured CycleInstead in a recent issue (see attachment) and they will continue following the ride throughout our journey to Scotland.

If possible could you mention our ride and web page on your website.

    Thanks very much.

    Kind Regards,

    Jaye Marolla
