For anyone new to CCE, a few people on here have tried Cycle Speedway (Anth has the injuries).

Edinburgh Falcons are V. friendly and always looking for new people to try this 'traditional' and just surviving (in Scotland) sport - they have the bikes for people to try.

Welcome to the first Edinburgh Falcons communication for 2011.

It’s now the 15th February and pre-season training is in full swing. Several sessions at Lifescycle on the spin bikes and the Wattbikes along with cyclocross training around Redbraes Park are all helping to build up that core fitness required before hitting the track in the next week or so.

All the riders have been working extremely hard in training and are hopefully seeing great benefits for all the “pain” they have endured so far.

Team Manager Stevie Gilroy has thrown down the gauntlet to his top four riders and challenged them to become the Edinburgh Falcons number one rider in 2011. The quartet of Craig Newsome, Mikey Hewitson, Jake Slight & Robert Bandosz have been left in no uncertain terms of what is expected of them in the coming season. Whilst all are capable of scoring big points each has individual traits which should stand them in good stead for a tilt at the Number one jersey.

In Craig Newsome the club have a former world number 10 and the top averaged rider from last season. Craig will come under pressure to hold on to his status as current number one especially from Mikey Hewitson who finished the 2010 season with 11 straight victories whilst claiming a maximum for Scotland & the Probowl Open title. Throw in the return of Polish sensation Robert Bandosz & home grown starlet Jake Slight and you have quite a fight! Bandosz who was matching the Northern League top men "point for point" until his untimely departure in July, returns to the Falcons eager to make up for lost time whilst Slight - the youngest of the quartet, is as good as any rider of his age within the Northern circuit.

Meanwhile, the Redbraes track has also been receiving some tender loving care in the last couple of weeks now that the weather has started to improve with a slight reshaping of the camber on bends three and four being the focal point of attention.

The first Falcons Northern League fixture for 2011 has also been confirmed as a home fixture against Stockport at Redbraes on 3rd April 2011. Tapes up at 2pm. Unfortunately, this now coincides with the next Edinburgh football derby but we all know that Redbraes will be the place to be for all the action.

Keep a look out for next weeks Falcons communication where an update on the pre-season training programme along with a full 2011 fixture list will be available.
