Unity's charity 'Unity in the Community is also looking for people to help with a new charity project:

    BIKE PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR

Unity in the Community is a Glasgow based charity working with asylum seekers.

We are looking for a volunteer to co-ordinate our new Bike project that we'll be running in partnership with Glasgow Bike Shed in the Barras starting next month. The project is to help asylum seekers and other volunteers repair donated bikes for them to use or for the charity to sell to raise funds for the project.

Many of the asylum seekers we work with are destitute or only receive limited funds. Providing them with bikes is a way of helping them get around the city for free.

Whilst this work will mostly be based on Mondays in the Bike Shed’s workshop in the Barras you will also be expected to collect donated bikes using the charity’s van as well as attending meetings and liasing with the charity's development worker and general manager.

We'd like to hear from people who
Are qualified bike mechanics or keen cyclists with experience of repairing bikes
Have an understanding of asylum issues or working with BME groups
Have a full Driving licence with at least 2 years driving experience
Available on Mondays and preferably at least one other day a week
Initially the post will be un-funded. You will be responsible for developing the project with other volunteers almost from scratch. Later in the year, once the project has developed there may be opportunities for funding and we may be able to offer a paid position.

For more information about the role or to find out about other opportunities with the organisation please contact Phill at info@unitycentreglasgow.org
