I have a meeting next week at Edinburgh Castle, and since I'll be on a tight schedule, planned (as usual) to cycle there and thence to the office. Does the Castle have bicycle parking, or should I take my folding bike in with me like I do everywhere else?

You should probably take the Monstrous Bike and stick it in the coach park just to be safe.

Potential ice notwithstanding, 3am on winter festive period day morning could be the ideal time to try the freewheel-to-Leith thing, obviously observing (hi, Sgt. Quentin) all traffic laws on the way down.

Hmmm, I'm working the days in between, but thinking this could be interesting to do, lazy brekkie, then easy-ish (hopefully) day in the office...

Anth, I have also e-mailed the Historic Scotland people for some more info about the Castle. The website, like almost every other visitor attraction, is pretty unhelpful to anyone not arriving by infernal combustion.

I've taken a Brompton into the castle a few times. I've had it bagged and naked. Nobody mentioned it.

Famous person who started his journey from the Castle gave a good account of his journey this evening on tv. He has arrived in Hawick having had a tough day struggling against the wind. It looked really tough, carrying a passenger on the back over the Moorfoots.
