If you have any spare cash...

    Hello folks

I wouldn't normally do this, but I have a personal connection to this one.

The attached article is about a brother and sister who have cystic fibrosis. They're the children of my dad's oldest friend, and my dad is the "uncle" referred to in the article. The article is about a sponsored event she and her brother and mum were taking part in, but things have moved on since the article was published and they're now no longer doing that event. Instead she's been asked to take part in an exhibition race at the world cup mountain biking event in Dalby forest in support of the "Go-Ride" initiative to get kids into competitive cycling, but she'd be delighted if anyone would like to make a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, or to Go-Ride. http://www.cftrust.org.uk/help/howtodonate/

She has only been mountain biking for a couple of years and was inspired to take it up by seeing my dad on his 60th birthday ride - she decided it was her ambition to have a bike as muddy as his! She took to it like a duck to water and in her first competitive event even managed to beat kids in the age groups above her! She's ridiculously determined and doesn't think that people being several years older than her is any reason for her not to win!

Among other things, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust funds research into treatment for the condition, which is one of the reasons Jennie and Matthew can expect to live into their 30s now - people with this condition often didn't make it to school age. We're hopeful that by the time they're adults, treatment will have progressed to the point where they'll have a normal lifespan.

If you have any spare cash at all, there are worse things you could do with it than send a couple of quid to the CF Trust
