Yes I think much of Craigiehall looks like a model 1960s middle class housing estate somewhere in the London commuter belt.

Army sites sell-off opportunity for cycle routes?

I thought it was interesting that they've only recently finished building a new maximum security fence around Redford Barracks.

And Glencorse was recently largely rebuilt. Apparently "do it up then sell it off" is typical MOD practice.

Recent report make no mention of a new "super barracks". What we have here is something I've been warning of for some time: the asset stripping of Scotlands future defence capability.
Any idea of an independent Scotland simply taking over existing facilities in a well ordered and amicable transfer can be put to bed, as those facilities will have been sold off and replaced by housing.

Glencorse not scheduled to close for another sixteen years: IF it happens on schedule/at all. Scotland may well be independent by then...
Redford, on the other hand, scheduled to close in 2022. That's still six years away: a lot could happen in that time.
Craigiehall only has two years left. So we'll have to get used to the idea of a "desirable residential development" creating a lot more motor traffic on Burnshot Road than at present.....tipper lorry hell starting 2018, then speeding German executive saloon hell afterwards.

It makes it much easier to invade your neighbours if you close down all their military bases first!

Exactly! One of the best reasons for Scotland remaining in NATO is that members countries are bound by treaty NOT to attack fellow members. Worth remembering when your nearest neighbour is an aggressive nuclear armed state!

Worth remembering that the UK's armed forces ae largely configured for attack rather than defence. Fast jets, aircraft carriers, gargantuan battle tanks and all the rest are for smashing your way into distant lands rather than fending off invaders.
You'd have to hope that iScotland won't have foreign adventure as a priority in the early days.

Craigiehall is directly under the final mile or so of the Airport flight path and not a terribly pleasant place for luxury villas, I'd have thought.

But that hasn't really suppressed the Barnton / Cramond / Cammo property prices...
If Rosyth is closed what happens to the seven subs?
Follow the MOD's original plans and just sink them in the outer Forth? We could say it's an artificial reef and try and get some diving tourism going on it.

So, Craigiehall announced as going to be sold.
Main access to Craigiehall via Burnshot Flyover. Unfortunately the bridge isn't wide enough and has a give way to oncoming traffic kind of flow.
"Urgent bridge inspection of Burnshot flyover" announced
Burnshot flyover closed until further notice (no reason given)
Seems aufy convenient...... Scottish Gov to fund new wider bridge or pay for major repairs?
Local councillor telling CEC to hurry up and fix it. Surely under Transport Scotland remit?

The A90 isn't a trunk road south of the FRB so it's a council bridge as far as I'm aware.
