Coming out of huge Morrison's parking lot last week, very busy road at the time but taxi stopped to let me turn out, which was much appreciated. Even more appreciated was when I saw that someone had double-parked not twenty metres further on, was thinking "ugh it's going to take ages to get a space to go round that", but then the same taxi stopped and let me out again. Very kind, gave him a wave both times.

Another one to report this morning, going up the hill at the top of Leith Street (after the gym! ugh), needed to get into the right-hand lane but there was a huge line of cars. Guy in a blue sedan stopped and waited for me to struggle up the hill into position on the right lane, very nice of him. :)

Not sure if this counts as good drving, but just coming up to the lights at the junction of Murrayburn Road and Wester Hailes road, a taxi overtook me and then had to stop at the red light a couple of seconds later - in the cycle box. He then proceeded to reverse back out of the cycle box, leaving it clear. A bit surprising, I thought.

Having missed you the first time, he wasn't coming back for a second go , was he?

It was a bit unnerving, having a vehicle reversing back towards me but it's a wide road with a decent width cycle lane so I wasn't in any danger and he hadn't passed me aggresively before.

A wee van liveried as GHI shopfitting or something similar very patiently waited behind the cyclist in front of him heading into the Cowgate from Holyrood Road, staying well behind until he pulled over to park just before High School Wynd.

Driver in some sports car thing yesterday immediately stepped off the accelerator as soon as I looked round to see if it was clear to go round a bus. I gave them a wee wave of thanks.

Almost made up for the two subsequent drivers who immediately stepped on the accelerator as soon as they saw me signalling to move right.

I had a driver stop at a toucan crossing today to let me across when the light was green and I hadn't even pressed the button. I was very suspicious that it was a trap but I crossed very warily and it wasn't!

Some donkeyfool had parked a VW van in the bike lane on Slateford Road, and traffic was enough that I couldn't pull out to overtake without someone giving me space.

Driver of blue saloon, I salute you again. The three cars ahead of you could learn from your considerate example.

I had good driving from a First Bus the other day. Yes!

He hadn't driven into the ASL at the traffic lights, then later on he dropped back to let me pass a car parked in the bus lane.

"He hadn't driven into the ASL at the traffic lights"

Isn't it sad that this makes it into a 'Good Driving' thread!

In an ideal world this topic would be renamed "Normal Driving", or maybe just "Driving".

Yes it is rather but it is very unusual. Particularly for a bus and more particularly for a First.

Another First Bus good driver seen near Camelon. Hung back a respectable distance as road bike, lycra clad, chappie toiled up hill then, when safe, moved out beyond the centre line to overtake!(and left lots of room before crossing back to correct side) 3 of the five following cars did likewise then 2 a*****es in sporty cars adhered to stereotype.

Big thumbs up for the white van driver behing me on L'gow high street this morning. Stayed well back, let me passed the parked cars them passed safely. Thanks!

Sadly the Karma balance was restored by a numpty in a Blue Mundaneo at L'gow Bridge IE who turned right into the road I was tuning left into intending to drive on the wrong side until passed me. There was, of course, someone coming the other way.

Got a nice cheery wave from a taxi driver on the Royal Mile this morning after realising I was about to block Cockburn Street if I carried on going so stopped.

Also got a wave from a driver about to turn right after I stopped filtering forward to let him.

Was a nice ride in on a sunny day after the Bike Breakfast!

Very friendly red BMW of all things, allowed me to filter in in front of him when I realised I was in the wrong lane on lothian road. Very smiley chappy he was too. Must have been having a very good day.

This morning a lovely lady in black Ford ka coming the other way let me across in front of her. This was as I was turning right from Bridge Rd in Colinton to get onto the WoL path. It is a horrible turn on a sharp corner so I was especially grateful.

hulking black Range Rover - the usual sort of vehicle that gets my blood pressure up around town - stopped the traffic behind it and waved me across as I waited in the rain to turn right from Stenhouse/Gorgie Road towards Stenhouse Cross

Taxi, BMW, Range Rover. Nice to see some stereotypes overturned. :)

  20. Bunzl lorry MX11 BZK, top driving. Didn't overtake me at the usual must-overtake-just-before-a-narrowed-road-under-a-bridge-and-before-a-junction point, waited behind at a safe distance as we started up the Royal Mile, then when passing was entirely in the opposite lane.

Good driving well over and above the required minimum for safety and Bunzl will be getting a smiley email.

Hah. I keep forgetting to add Bunzl to the blacklist thread - I've seen one being pushy around Lothian Road a few times over the spring and have since had one being pushy behind me a couple of times at various points around Lochend and Abbeyhill, including pushing past through the pinch points.

Some good driving from someone in a white lorry on South Bridge/Nicolson Street this morning. Even waited a bit behind me at the pedestrian crossing rather than trying to pull up alongside. Also had lots of good driving last night. Loads of space from everyone and no revving engines.

Had plenty of good driving this week with cars waiting for me and me waving and them smiling back and also me waiting for cars and the driver acknowledging this. alas large amount of stuff causing me to thump my helmet and then raise my hand vertically in a salute to Mr Shortened Form of Richard Head. But that is a different string and curiously I am letting the stuff go and not posting it, even the guy in the green Audi still waiting aIt holy corner

Shout out to the driver of the Lothian Number 3 this morning on South Bridge. He was stopped at a bus stop and the cars shuddered to a halt in the outside lane in such a way as to leave a cyclist shaped gap between them and the bus which I could have got through provided the bus wasn't about to move forward. I wasn't going to take a stupid risk but he saw me waiting next to him and looking hopeful and waved me through the gap. Nice fellow!

Car tailgaiting me through Russell Road. Well, as soon as it saw the blue stripe marked "POLICE" on the hi-viz jackets of the cyclecop highway patrol on the road ahead!

Fisrt Bus number 27 sat patiently behind me through a longish section of double-whites before making his pass. Emailed them I was so impressed.

    Too general for the Tracker:

Am I under confirmation bias, or are more drivers these days treating a shoulder check as an indicate? It's been a few times this week and last where I've seen the need to overtake, shoulder checked, looked forward again, indicated, shoulder checked again only to see the driver behind has already matched pace, so the only point in sticking my arm out is for a thankee thumbs up. So I do.

Twice in one day. Sadly I didn't get any details but one of those extra large "black" cabs. Found myself stuck behind a bus in Leith Street and looked round to see if I could go round. Taxi coming so no but he stopped and waved me out. Thanks!

Dagnabbit. Meant to pay more attention and be able to commend the particular bus driver turning right from Melville Street onto Queensferry Road who waited for me, holding back the rest of the right-turning traffic, even though I was quite a distance from the junction, so that I could go across from Randolph Place to Melville Street. Good guy.
