A reasonable excuse. I've done a Nord two-handerer, an Argonian scumbag sneak archer and am now doing a onehanderer Redguard in a keepin' it real style - no fast travel, no powerlevelling via craft spam, no AI exploits in combat. Love that game, and still haven't completed the main quest.

Horribly so. Redguard's probably nastier than Orsimer as a onehander - fire up your Adrenaline Rush, dualwield and spamspamspam power attacks. Once per day you can punch amazingly high above your weight doing that.

Aaaaaaaaaaanyway, off Skyrim and onto Hilly Tuesday, I reckon we need a better system of herding the cats than we currently have.

Between Twitter, sharing phobile numbers and Col War spycraft, there must be something, da?

Last chance traffic free? I think the closures were only for GMT, so come next week, the high road might be open in the evenings?

I was up there running tonight and it was WINDY although maybe it'll have blown through by tomorrow. By windy I mean it was "blow you over" at the very top and "really hard to run into" on the way around. Not sure how well that translates to the Beaufort scale.

The plot thickens, Roibeard. The barriers last week had a note on them saying they were down due to toad migrations rather than dusk, and there were regular posters stuck to the road on the way around cautioning cyclists against smooshing them.

No clue if that's still the case and if so, how long the toads will march.

When I say there were regular posters stuck to the road, I mean large pieces of paper intended to be read by many people at once, not a series of frequent contributors to internet fora:

"I post every day on AerobicYoga.Net, watch out for toads! They're such beautiful animals and so misunderstood..."

"I go on V8supercharge.com when I'm bored at work LOL!!!! Stupid toads dont even pay hill tax they should get a life and learn to get out my way grrr LOL!!!!"

"Excuse me, can you help? Someone came round to my house and stuck me to the ground here, said something about me posting every day on FilmWeb.org, but I only use the computer for emails and the news. Maybe it was my daughter coming to visit. She used the computer for a bit."

In Pentlands on Saturday we watched a toad crawl across the road, later we came across a variety I think called Splatterjack. It was very flattened into the tarmac.

A fair few toads on the roads in the Lammermuirs a week ago too. Managed to avoid them, thankfully.

Tonight: timing is awkward as I pick up my son just beforehand. Will see.

Barring amazingly prompt parents, I'll not be there for the first lap.

@crowriver: I intend to do four laps, so given I'll be Johnny Come Lately, you've the option of company until a fair bit past 7.

Wind speed forecast to drop by 3mph for 18:00. As long as the climb is not windy, should be okay-ish...

I read 14mph, gusts 26 on the Met, crowriver. It's the usual WSW, so the climb will be sheltered except that very last bit.

Beeb says 13mph by 18:00, dunno what the gusts will be though!

Tyres back to full pressure, rescue kit packed, lights and batteries checked and all Twitterers intending to come set to mobile notification. See you either at the barrier or at the Pollock roundabout, folks. Can one of you be lovely and tweet me just before your first ascent, please?

I'm pretty much off air from 2-6; basement of school is a mobile blackspot and I never have time to check the interwebs.

I'm on the way home and gonna head out pretty much straight away as lacking my powerful lights at the moment.

Maybe catch you guys on the way around. Blue helmet and a barn door of a cyclecross.

Lovely night for it. The wind wasn't as crippling as it's been, especially on the last couple of laps.

Dunsapie Loch stretch was very toady, sometimes voyeuristically so. Very soon after sunset, they put on the amphibian equivalent of the Berlin Love Parade, to use the CCE-friendly variant of its name. Sadly no Technoviking Toad.

Easily the busiest I've seen in terms of non-CCE folks.

Hadn't done the full four laps before, and it was comfortable enough that I can be legitimately pleased with my progress, I think. Still make utterly horrendous sounds when it gets tough, mind.

Toad in road by LaidBackBikes, on Flickr

Also joined by group from the tri centre with electronic shift Trek on half of last lap. We didn't run over any toads. Yes macro shot isn't that great - should've got an iPhone;-)

I only managed 3 laps before the light got a bit dodgy for not having .... lights.

    I didn't see a single toad! Disappointing.

Wind was a bit tricky on my last lap but all in all a delightful evening!
