"Babysitters are now 'registered child-minders'. They need a licence (unless it's a relative or a friend). Hence the expense?"

I have a 16 year old niece that on the one hand makes me feel really old and on the other hand can be exploited for babysitting duties.....

Was quiet on the hill tonight....;-)

    Did two laps.

Wind was strong after going round top at Dunsapie. Couldn't keep in big ring over the bump before going down. No frost.

I stopped at the bike rack roundabout at 6.45 just in case anyone appeared on a bike.

Did my own traffic survey to see who uses the park. This was snapshot of park use today from 7.45 till 7.55.

127 cars (some carrying more than one person no doubt)
    12 runners
    2 dog walkers
3 cyclists (me, one going downhill and one on the path coming up the way).

This is in line with HS's own stats that around 1% of vehicles in the park are bikes.

I should correct and say almost 3% of vehicles were bikes. Sure it is a bit higher at some points of the day and hopefully will be higher next week!

Also pretty sure that the uphill cycleway from Holyrood up towards Commonwealth Pool is useful when there is such an overwhelming amount of cars.

Did you have cabin fever to have gone out on such a night as this? No frost but it was C-c-c-o-l-d coming home this evening after the rain had stopped.

i rode past the starty bit about 6.20ish, but couldn't see a wild array of lights gathered, and I couldn't really be bothered to go round on my own, so rode on home.

I would say I saw approx 10 cars on that stretch, and 2 bikes including me, so a massive proportion of, er,

I would say I saw approx 8 cars on that stretch, and 2 bikes including me, so a massive proportion of 20%, I do believe, of vehicles using the park were bikes at that time.

    Taking a trike tonight...

    May be just one lap.

Leave LB at 6.10 start at 6.20.

I don't mind the uphill. Will take it very easy on downhill as visibility is nil at the "best of times" and ice detection abilities will be minimal.

Was Icy in places but fun with three wheels. Good way to keep cycling when it's winter;–)

The corner before barrier was very icy on way down but ok

Caught up a motor scooter on main road - he wasn't pleased..
    \
Car park at Dunsapie was skid pan.

    [

Very bad phone pic of Alizé trike - was quite white here....

Glad I got in at 5 to 6 and decided to heat up the mac 'n' cheese rather than venture out on my slick 25s...

Weather is looking good for this tomorrow. However I have my work's Christmas bash :(

Hope that those who do it enjoy it.

Lights are on the racer and Inception bag is packed. Now I just need to eat all the food in the world tonight...

Damn. Hate it when that happens.

    Tonight I'll either be:
    a) hilling it; or
    b) switching my brain off for a some shoulder-rehabitation swimming.

Which one it is will largely depend on what time I get away from work and a spur of the moment decision when I get home.

Sat at the loch barrier from a shade before 6.30 till 6.40, then for a wee while after my first lap.

Failed miserably to complete the second lap without stopping to extinguish the bushfires that had apparently broken out in my lungs. By the time I was back at the Pollock roundabout I felt like I had a third lap in me, but I'm a busy gerbil at work the next couple of days and I didn't need to be ruined for them.

Definitely time to admit defeat and put that freewheel I have knocking about onto the racer. 72" fixed bad, 64" single good.

No it isn't. Bloodymindedness to the rescue!

Went out at 8 tonight and pleasantly surprised myself by doing three laps as defined: starting at the Commie and resting before the ascent.

I'd be a charlatan if I said they were in any way quick laps, but that's something I can work on in the future; it was strictly ascent+pootle, except on the last lap, where I went for maximum spinning. In the absence of a cycle computer, all I know is the car behind me didn't overtake even though the oncoming lane was clear.

Agreeably better than last time, anyway.

I need to get myself some brakes* and some shifters. Performance. That's the name of the game.

*not true, but better brakes would be smart.

Oh, I was hoping to spin round the Seat the nicht but had to purchase a used Samsonite suitcase. Perfect fit for the Y-Frame trailer...

Next week. I. Will. Do. 3. Laps.

Temperature is zooming upwards. Anyone been around the seat this lunchtime - is it icy still?

Was it icy ever? There was no sign of ice or frost that I saw this morning.

I'm in for a few laps.

Crowriver, can bring that stem if you fancy?

@kaputnik, I will try and make it along this evening. Weather milder, which is good. May just manage one lap, maybe more, we'll see: not so much a problem with the climb as the descent - elbow still very sore and sensitive to bumps.

    Which bike though?

Ute - hmmm, possibly without monster panniers. Need big headlight though.
Raleigh Pioneer - has headlight, could be a goer.
Raleigh Swift - great wee climber, has been up to Dunsapie before. Lights currently not functioning (bulb blow out I suspect due to loose connection on downhill)
Globe Vienna - bit heavy with various child carrying attachments, but has winter tyres in case any ice remains. No big headlight though.
Single speed - tyres too skinny, knee popping hill. No powerful headlight. No.
BSA 20 - gears too high for that climb. Steel rims. No.
AluBike - coaster brake wheel locker on downhill if not careful. No.

I'll toddle along for a lap if I can.

Saw a pic from someone I know doing laps yesterday lunchtime and there was what looked like a pretty heavy frost.

Not tonight (Josephine); pencil me in for next week.

I'm on a shoulder-rehabilitating swim tonight, seeing as I didn't bother doing it last night. Maybe next week...

The only risky bit yesterday lunchtime were the bits which hadn't yet seen enough sun. The gate was still closed, presumably just to prevent anyone doing anything daft then trying to blame someone else. On the shaded upslope there was enough frost to stick prettily to the shoulders of my tyres but nothing you could slip on unless you were going the wrong way. There were enough dry sections on the descent (prior to the roundabout) to be able to slow without risk and the 'real' road bit from roundabout to Scotsman had been gritted and thawed by motor traffic.

I'll think I have a rest tonight. Work has been demanding of late so I just need to catch up with some tasks and then flop out. Next time ...

Sorry, I'm wimping out. Only just eaten, later than expected. Kids, chores, etc. beckon. @kaputnik, will have to catch you later in the week.
