    LaidBack: Maybe one lap

    Maybe one lap, he says. Legs are tired from Penicuik, he says. Two laps, third ascent and then a reverse run from Pollock roundabout to St Margaret's, I saw, and the plan was a fourth ascent.

    I headed home after badly underestimating the length of the reverse Pollock ascent. Fierce wee climbs suit my type I/type II muscle bundle ratio rather well, but I really mean wee.

    It must be getting popular. There were an unheard-of TWO whole other people trotting/walking anticlockwise at about half ten last night when I finally got out. The wind had returned to the top.

    That wind from the last righthand bend to Dunsapie is easily my least favourite moving volume of gas.

    As the dusk comes later and later, when do the barriers go up? If it's later and later, would we push back the time to keep it carless?

    I think the gate will stay closed at 5 till spring, certainly at the start of the autumn it was closed even tho there was still light.

    Forecast is looking alright for cycling but poor for borealis, unless it's very low lying cloud.

    I'm in for tonight, though.

    Didn't make it, son needed help with his homework Did my own "Hilly Wednesday" though, of sorts: not up Arthur's Seat but a bit of urban climbing.

    Up the steep bit of Easter Road towards Abbeymount;
    Steady climb against the wind up Regent Road;
    Ascent of the road ramps out of Waverley in the wrong gear (38T:18T), as I forgot to change down and didn't want chain to snap/come off;
    Up Market Street (against the wind once more) then up the top of the mound to George IV bridge.

    Doesn't sound too spectacular, but this was all with child seat and 15kg of toddler on the back, plus assorted food and drink etc. in panniers.

    Good resistance training.

    That's tough cycling. Child seats are great training aids! D

    They're also great for getting toddlers off to sleep. Must be all the fresh air!

    :-)

    Josie has a child seat on her bike for taking our boys to school/nursery. She says that Louis drops off to sleep when she takes him on the bike. Its funny, his head lols over onto her backside. I've seen how quickly he sleeps in the car seat so I don't know why I didn't realise he would sleep on the bike.

    Planning to trike up hill - just to see how slippy it is. Going to be a ©hilly tuesday I reckon.

    Not made hilly tuesday for yonks... I have been dong my own solitary 5 laps a day in the mornings though. Fairly gets the blood going.I love passing the same jogger 3 times to his 1 lap.

    Ah, so you lot are the Tuesday night Arthurs Seat mob. I've spotted you before when pecking round. I occasionally do a half lap on my commute on the way home, and was planning on doing just that this evening.

    I'll give you an out of breath wave as I puff up the hill on the singlespeed if I see you. Fingers crossed the descent won't be too icy on slick tyres...

    Hey Folks.
    I'll hopefully get along next week if the essays will let me. Be good to get a few laps in.

    @Pixelmix Singlespeed is the only true way to do the circuit ;)

    AH true that good Sir. Not sure how I'd manage downhill on a fixie.

    With my non-aerodynamic clothes and non-aerodynamic face, I really have to put the hammer down to go quicker than 30mph even on a downhill, which is handy since at my skinny fixie's 77" that's about 130rpm, and my Soviet Russia point is around 140.

    That makes the uphill a slog, but I'm feart, so I'll trade the inefficiency for the terror any day.

    Hi Pixelmix...

    Saw one bike going other way down from Dunsapie as I was on first lap at 6.25.

    Didn't se any other bikes after that.

    Couldn't find any ice. Was a dry cold. The loch wasn't frozen.

    We are going to continue - we'll have a rota so that every week is covered!

    Were around a dozen runners out tonight.

    @recombodna - 5 laps in the morning ! wow, are you training for something special or simply a masochist ??

    5 laps puts you into the '1% of most able cyclists in Edinburgh club'. You need a heavier bike and then you can burn same energy doing fewer laps;-)

    I was overtaken by a runner tonight on the steepest bit. Maybe I need to train more...

    Nah, just carry a handy lasso...

    I always thought that had a double o at the end. Wikipedia informs me I was incorrect. Hmm.

    @Nelly.... Bit of both. but really just trying to stick to my new year resolutions for once. I've promised myself a new road bike for the summer but only if I can lose some belly and be fit enough to deserve it.

    @ LaidBack

    Were you heading round the 'wrong way' with a high vis vest on? If so, I did indeed pass you (or we saw the same person). Good conditions for it last night - light wind for a change, and what little wind there was, was actually from the East, so helped along the normally tortuous flatish section at the top.
