@SRD, no not yet. I still need to find an hour or two to restore it to as near 'stock' condition as possible. That might be today if I can manage. Are you interested?

Hello
I have just bought a Fold-it and was wondering if anyone could help with an owner's handbook, manual or other documentation.
Many Thanks

I'm afraid I can't help on that score.
But in two hours an auction ends which is selling some Sunbeam parts, including an axle and drive-side BB cup which, fingers crossed, could be just what I need. I'm going to end up paying over the odds for this.... But...

Michaux, not sure if Tulyar here ever owned a Fold-It (besides Bickerton, Brompton and Bike Friday-alike) but you could also try asking on the Velovision discussion forum, or write to AtoB magazine who would almost certainly know. The Fold-It was a nice little bike.

Hi michaux, I have a Fold-it, it's a great wee bike. No manual I'm afraid.
Are you having problems?

I was a bit naughty yesterday. I succumbed to the n+1 urge, when really I ought to know better. I have been quite impressed by my Dawes Audax Giro, so was intrigued when I saw a late 1990s Dawes Competition Giro 400 going for not a lot on EeByGum. Just round the corner too. Went to have a look, frame in good nick (paint finish on the UK built Dawes bikes seems to be very robust), shifters hosed (like on my Audax Giro), BB with some play, but otherwise seemed sound. So I bought it of course...
Cro-Mo frame and forks, TIG welded by the looks of it. Surprisingly light. No eyelets: this is a 'road bike'.
Wheels are Mavic, with what look like the original hubs. Some Schwalbe Blizzards in 23mm on there. Clearance looks good for 25mm or even 28mm (without guards). 7 speed at the back, quite narrow 'racing' range by the looks of it. I presume a cassette? We'll find out...
Brakes original, I think RSX or RX100. Brifters are RSX, shifters are non-functioning but 2300/Sora should make a good replacement. Seatpost looks original, don't know about the saddle.
Crankset not original, it and the (double) front derailleur have been replaced (looks quite recently) with triple Sora setup. Chainrings showing only a wee bit of wear. Chain is fine. BB has quite a lot of play, can't figure out if it's loose in the shell or the bearings are gone: was okay to ride briefly to garage, but will investigate/replace if necessary before I ride any distance!
No external rust on frame, and only a mild bit of rust inside. Headset seems fine, as does stem, bars.
Think I'll get all the bearings checked. regreased before I ride this bike in anger. Certainly needs new brifters, maybe a new BB. Possibly new tyres/tubes too, we'll see. Some nicer bottle cages required. I'll ditch the Look Keo clipless pedals, and go with cage pedals and toeclips instead.....anyone need some Look pedals?
Otherwise, seems not a bad machine potentially for training, day rides, maybe even the odd audax if the weather is fine... I quite like these 1990s Dawes steel frames!

Now that I do have the manual for...

90s retro!
Why do I always mix up Mavic and Rigida? Anyhow, Rigida rims this bike has, so probably the originals. Don't seem to have much wear.

Well that's the rebuild of the Dawes Competition Giro 400 just about done.
New BB; 'new' STI shifters (Sora 8 speed triple); new gear cables; 'new' wheelset/tyres (Alex S500 with Gatorskins, taken from the single speed); new bar tape; new bottle cages (had them lying around from a prior stalled project). All cleaned, lubed, adjusted.
Just needs a computer, a seatpack/tool roll, and we're ready for a training run.
Keeping it at 7 speed for now, I have an 8 speed close ratio which I may try later. Might swap out the saddle in future, we'll see how I get on.
