GALE-force winds, storms and heavy snow are expected to cause disruption as they batter parts of Scotland this weekend.

One of the warmest Novembers on record is set to draw to a close with blizzard conditions.

Severe weather warnings have been issued for southern Scotland, parts of the north-west and the far north.

Coming home in that headwind on your singlespeed would be a larf, Mabs.

Firefox wants to auto-correct you to Abs.

Just been for a, um, "refreshing" ride round the block, which for me was to Carrington, Rosewell, the whizzing back with the wind behind along the Bonnyrigg distributor road.

Made happier by seeing a driver of an Audi TT getting nicked for speeding after pushing past me on a roundabout. Is it wrong to feel like that? Nice to see the police in action.

That sort of schadenfreunde is perfectly acceptable Amir. Nay, encouraged.

    "Nay, encouraged."

    Yes -

You should have said 'thank you officer for stopping him. I was just about to report his dangerous driving.'

Singlespeed to kilo sale on Dalmeny Street and then back via Leith Walk / Leith Street / Bridges was a bad idea. Standing up and hauling on the bars the whole way home.

    Peched!

Amazingly fast run down to Portobello this morning with the tagalong, tailwind all the way. Rather more sedate pace on the way back, headwind most of the way, occasional sidewind caused a wobble or three.

Incredible tailbacks of cars in the east of the city today. Busiest I've seen it since the festival. Christmas shopping?

    It's a bit wild out there today. 16 m/s is 36mph.

I was outside this morning attending to the motorbicycle, and my hands were frozen by the time I was done.

A motorbike (covered by tarp) was blown over in our street when I returned with No.1 son on the tagalong just before 2pm.

We were weighed down with two bags of shopping and a gas pipe steel tagalong so the wind was more of an exciting entertainment than anything. Didn't feel dangerous but we have stayed in since getting back.....high winds and rain, maybe put off those errands till tomorrow.

Edinburgh Castle closed because of high winds

Can't use your Historic Scotland pass if the castle is closed...that's a good trick!

at least there was no grief given about cycling, or parking the bike + tagalong

@SRD, true. We were one of only a handful of hardy (insane?) cyclists pootling around though. The fairweather brigade are taking the bus or car, methinks. Maybe that's why there was so much congestion!

people at work have now declared me insane
though TBH i didnt suffer too badly with the wind across the city either way today
the tailwind nearly caught me on the Sth Gyle Crec roundabout though
gave me a nice burst of speed and i neglected to compensate for it becoming a sidewind as i came round :o

    Sth Gyle Crec roundabout though

Second that for being a dreadful roundabout for crosswinds!

I have "stalled" on it before where a gust of wind has whipped through so strongly that it stopped me dead in my tracks.

Perhaps its something to do with being on the edge of a large open space and then suddenly having to funnel around some tall-ish buildings that causes it.

The design of the roundabout, with a tall central hill covered in trees, probably encourages the wind to channel around the island, rather than across it.

Well the Surly with full panniers was fine on the Esplanade Thursday night, but then it ought to be with that much weight low down! :-o

Don't fancy it today though, quite glad we had no reason to go anywhere :)
My main vertical antenna was bending quite worryingly today as well so I had to nip out and lower it for the night to avoid damage. Fingers crossed everyone and their homes/bikes survive our wee blaw!

Looks very quiet out there now...the wind has definitely died down, and sooner than forecast. It was wild last night with rain lashing on the windows, glad I was under the duvet.

I was up at the computer working on a doodle. There was a hail storm right around 2AM. Would explain sudden drop in temperature and jump in the windspeed and direction

@chdot, sorry missed your question...no I think it was earlier than 2am though I cannot be absolutely certain, it was certainly very noisy and may have woken me up. The wind was also making a fair racket, funneling down the chimney and across the roof tiles. Not really sorry to see the back of the wind, one of my least favourite elements...particularly when cycling in it!!

There was certainly windy wildness around 1.15 am when I was trying to get to sleep. Lashing at (South-facing) bedroom window.

Druidh n me went down with the big bikes to Mabie. Weather on the way there was 'of note'.

It had obviously been wet down there... we were soaked just from surface water and hub deep puddles! fun mind.

I found it worse last night when there was a nasty crosswind. This am it didn't seem so bad and I was on a heavier bike.
