A man who attacked a woman as she walked to work on a footpath along the Water of Leith in in Edinburgh in broad daylight is being sought by police.
The 24-year-old was on the path between Gillespie Road and West Mill Road in Colinton on Thursday at 14:10.
The man jogged towards her, punched her in the face before trying to push her over a wall into a grass area.
A struggle ensued before a man and woman walking by disturbed the suspect, who then ran off.
The woman then contacted police who are now urging anyone who can assist with their inquiries to come forward.
The attacker is white, 30-40 years old, over 6ft tall and of stocky build.
He was wearing a black hooded top, blue jeans and light-coloured trainers.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "This has been a terrifying experience for the young woman, who suffered a few minor cuts as a result, but was thankfully, not seriously injured.
"The suspect did not speak during the incident and so at this time it is unclear as to what his motive was for this attack.
"Anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, or who can help us identify the man responsible is asked to contact police immediately.
"We are also keen to trace the couple who were walking along the footpath and would ask them to get in touch as soon as possible."
