It's 2.3 degC up by Fairmilehead, and birdbaths have a very thin skin of ice on the top. Normally I'd have considered it not cold enough for spikey tyres, but the gritters were out in force at hometime yesterday.

Ice and frost all along the Innocent. Rear wheel span when I pulled out of Parkside. Top corner of Leamington Walk quite dodgy too.

It was pretty darned cold at 7am, most pavement really icy but roads okay. Dundee has had a really arsh frost overnight, lots of peds walking in the busy rush hour roads to avoid slipping on the white ice sheets formerly known as pavements...

My wee bucking bronco bike survived despite no winter tyres. Caution, laddie, caution!

Well I took the spiky bike today but since my commute is almost entirely main roads I really needn't have worried about traction, just the biomechanics of my knee. My street was fine on the racing line but icy immediately off it.

The cycle paths ere very icy. I also did a wheel spin at Hermits Croft due to trying to move off while standing on the pedals.

Note to self-spiky tyres require you to be putting your weight on them before they work.

Daughter's rear wheel wasn't turning freely this morning (the bike is in an outdoor shed overnight).

I think I may have to revise my idea of V-brake tolerances...

Roads in the estate were treacherous - last year I didn't let the kids cycle in slippy conditions, but this year I've decided to give it a whirl (or see them go for a whirl)!

No offs yet, not even me (sans fancy tyres)!

Bloke at work reports a big patch of ice somewhere in Dalmeny, off on which he came.

You'll be very glad to hear that high street between Bridges and GIV Bridge was heavily coated in grit by 8PM last night.

Despite lack of buses, schools, hospitals or any through traffic at all, I'm sure its for the tourists of course, nothing to do with city chambers proximity...

I am heading to Leeds this eve and taking my bike to the station (and onto the
train) was dicey with ice everywhere. I stuck to the main routes (Bus routes)
but I would have felt much safer on the snow tyres. Hope there is no ice
tomorrow for my ride round south York, perhaps I should have brought the Cotic
    after all.

It's forecast to rain overnight, but if you're out early on the Meadows, do watch the paths, there was a good sheen of slidy frost forming not long ago when I went for a (failed) trundle to see any signs of auroral activities.

I read this just after I finally prised myself off Skyrim at 1am, and thought as I brushed my teeth: I better swap the lights onto Wintersaurus and set my alarm back from this morning's lie in.

I forgot this in the time it took get into bed. Wet bum. Late.

Presume rain/ground warm enough not to freeze???

Certainly no frost out west, although a couple of cars went past with a light dusting of slushy snow.

    It was, however, unpleasantly damp.

It's usually warmer and wetter in the wild west.

It was okay this morning on the way from Dalkeith. Almost warm (given my clothing). The rain didn't feel cold. 3 degs on home thermometer at 7am.

That was my experience. Felt warmer than 3deg. Full waterproofs helped with the warmth I guess.

Most interesting part of commute was meeting a ninja-paperboy coming towards me on the green lane opposite the zoo.

I think he may have been avoiding puddles on the pavement, but he really didn't stand out well in the gloom at 7.30am.

As he passed me (to my right!) a bus went past in the outside lane. I guess the bus was only there as it had pulled out to go past me so I hate to think what shape the paperboy might be in now...

Can I add 'windier' to the wild west description?

  19. T'was fine coming in from Duddingston this morning. Given I'm back on the 'guarded bike there wasn't much/any wetness to spoil the ride.

I did almost come off... When my braking front wheel hit a wet, gritty patch left by a truck tyre on the smooth concrete floor of the work car park.

Locked the rear wheel going up Spittal Street as well - speed from Johnston Terrace not lost; driver pulling out of Lady Lawson Street (then immediately thinking better of it) gave a momentary panic (and cool-as tail-out sitting-down skid).

Roaster today. I'm now riding in shorts and t-shirt under my windproof, but with the windproof half unzipped and the sleeves rolled up!

Windy when I left work tonight. But, more importantly, likely to be freezing tomorrow morning, and warnings out re untreated roads. I have learned my lesson and will stick to the main roads!

Looks like light frost on cars windscreens in EH6, though the droplets on the plastic bins are still liquid.

Very icy out by Dalkeith. Also on side roads in Edinburgh. Black ice.

Definitely a bit chilly. Didn't notice any ice but there was definitely a good crisp frost down in parts (esp. from Canonmills to 5way)

Bruntsfield links and Meadows frosty, and slippy in places but not too bad. All the bikes I saw were taking it very easy. Even had a nice chat with a guy on a new Boardman (bike-to-work).

Alas I took the train this morning [embarressed]. I washed my cycle kit last night as it was begining to humm and it was not completely dry this morning... But it was very frosty in Fife and clear over the Forth Bridge, so much so I could see all the way to North Berwick, and I expect the May isle if I'd have bothered to look hard enough.

See you all for tea tomorrow morning.

Plenty of frost out the Gyle side. *Down with this sort of thing. Careful now.

    *Put plenty of grit
