CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

Hit -6 in the ambulance around some not too remote areas of Durham last night, was definitely brisk...
Mid afternoon we cycled down the canal to the aqueduct. All very crisp and lovely. Amazing setting orange sun perfectly centred over canal just before crossing slateford road.
(different thread: we've only had one longish ride since K. got her new bike. She was absolutely terrified and in tears at start. I didn't know if forcing it was a good idea - thought I might put her off it for good. But at corner by Recombodna's I did my nastiest and ordered her to ride. Just as we passed that same point on return she said 'ooh this is fun' . great relief felt by big people.
Went mountain biking in the pentlands today. First time in about 15 years. Great day for it very icey though. Spotted The SRD clan on the way back.
We were looking at the frosty pentlands and thinking what good cycling people must have been having there today!
"First time in about 15 years"
That's the great thing about 'cycling' it can be occasional/random/erratic etc.
I cycled to just south of Perth today. The ride up was nice in the sun but in the Firth of Tay but cycling along the Tay in the shade was cold. Up to Glenfarg was warm in the sun again but out to Milnathort became cold as clouds rolled over the sun. I could hear the crincling of ice under the wheels from then on. I had a lovely warm shower to reheat after. Ideally need to fit a bath long term in our new place though.
So cold this morning the water exhaled with my breath froze solid in my beard.

At least it's not windy
Me being a scaredy-cat, I came in on the bus this am. Thermometer at home was at -5.
...but the fact there wasn't any wind made it feel warmer than last week. Although I think it's only about -3 over here. Must get an outside thermometer for the flat
I think it was about -2 when I left today - but as others have said, without the wind it didn't feel as cold. Certainly I could still feel my fingers and toes when I got in!
Give me this weather (ice notwithstanding) than the wind and rain of recent weeks!
Did find it very cold this morning but quite enjoyed the stillness and frosted envirnoment.
Be careful on Princes St, the barriers have leaked and left sheet ice all along the street.
Brrr. Lovely! frosty on B'field links.
It was -4.8C in still air when I left the house this morning. Riding to work at speed, and taking wind chill into account, it was more like -12C.
My Sealskinz gloves just weren't up to the job and I rode most of the way with lumps of ice to work the brakes and gears. Curiously, my quads ended up far colder than my hamstrings.
Car computer showed -4 when I drove Mrs S to the station this morning, dawn has brought it up to -2.2 here, I think spiky tyres may be my choice tomorrow :)
First outing for my spokes buff today. Toasty!
Whoever thought riding in the buff would be warm???
"My Sealskinz gloves just weren't up to the job"
I might give mine a try on the way home with a thinner microfleecey thing beneath them. My proper winter ski-glove-type gloves still let a bit of cold into my foremost fingers on the way in but get very inflexible with anything beneath them. One combination I've not yet tried is the SealSkinz beneath the outer shells of my snowboarding mitts.

Cycle computer: (noun) the extra few grams that cyclists add to a bicycle that, contrary to the laws of physics, makes the bicycle go faster.

What a day for the bathroom radiator to spring a leak. I've drained it and checked the nut and the coupling doesn't seem to have any PTFE or washers in it. Very odd.
V V V cold in deepest Darkest Fife this morning. Plus thick, thick FOG in Fife. Funny as passing over the Forth Bridge on the train, the FOG bank is lying half way along the Forth, only in Fife, not in Dalmany Hopeton etc...
Brrr, haven't been as cold as that in a long time! Must be because of the suddenness of the drop in temperature, as I remember cycling in colder temperatures with less layers last year.
Couldn't feel my toes when I got to work this morning despite the neoprene gimpshoes which are rated to -6oC.
Although I was treated to the loveliest of sights at the top of the FRB, after cycling through orange fog because of the low sun. I was rewarded by a low orange sun coming over the FB as I broke through the orangey mist.Lovely!
I was toasty this morning!
Upgraded to my ski gloves, and put my buff around neck and over ears, but other than that, didn't wear any more than normal.
I didn't sweat, but that's about it. I must run hot...
Just been out to top up the bird feeder and take photos of the roof damage for the insewerants, Brrrrr! Despite the fact it's warmed up to -0.1deg according the the weather station, it is a damp bitter cold which chills very quickly. Wrapped around a nice warm coffee mug now!
this morning was cooold ! still the punto driver who thought he could cut me up and sneak in front of the lorry turning in front of me sure got a shock when he realised that the lorry driver and me knew each other !Easilly the best way to arrive at work, eyes streaming, nose blowing and feeling ALIVE !
*hugs his Marathon Winters*
Ow.
It's as icy as I've seen it this year. Take care, folks.
I have an idea for a visual gag involving the front half a hi-viz vest(an item I happen to own) and a patch of black ice, but without my camera it's going to have to wait, which probably means I'll forget, so feel free to nick it.
As Uberuce says, it is really icy, esp on untreated surfaces. My wee road was a sheet.
However it is also not that cold, so no need to overdress like wot I did.
