Nothing cooking in Leith. I'm excited to have another chance to put the mighty Marathon Winters to the test though!

No snow in Dundee. Thought it was a tad parky in Embra this morning, but did not expect the white stuff!

Bloody glad I wore I hoodie today. I was regretting it on the way to King's as I was too hot but so glad I had it on the way home.
Normally would have just been shorts and t shirt. Quite a few folk with very very poor lights though..

Hideous this afternoon, got a thorough soaking, with a mixture of heavy rain, sleet and snow, and wind blasting too from the west....brrr. Temperatures expected to fall overnight with freezing, and as the ground is so wet I think ice may well be a real problem first thing. So go gingerly and be careful out there!!

Oh dear, might have to break out the black as coal spikey tyred 'macho' bike the morn. As opposed to the sensible hub geared back pedal brake pootling/leisurely commuting/pensioner dawdling foldy bike.

Yup its icy out there, just got home, the roads were ok but I took it extra cautious, nearly came off on the 2m of pavement before my front door. Funnily enough the roads are gritted and the pavements are a deathtrap, should be amusing for the neds on leith walk...

Yellow warning from the met for snow and ice tomorrow morning. That'll make all those with studded tyres happy

I'm on studded tyres all the time now, the sludge of leaves and mud make cycling on road tyres slippery. Not too ice this morning, just a couple of frosty patches.

My decision not to swap back to slicks during the ~8 degree heatwave is now looking increasingly justified?

I did another round of stud replacement - only two or three on the front but a *lot* from the rear - almost all left-outer's, too...

I've put 33 replacement studs into the tyres now, which sounds like a lot but there are 480 in total (and after all, Schwalbe mails out replacements for free)

Don't think snow's looking all that likely in Edinburgh, maybe a bit sleety? Either way it looks like a horrible forecast for tomorrow.

And simply by writing this we'll now get 6" of snow.

Similarly impressed by the free replacement studs! I'm assuming some searching of their website will reveal who to contact? I've got about 15 to replace, mainly resulting from accidentally locking wheels whilst avoiding cars, people and a solitary sheep.

I used the contact form on their website to plead ask for some, giving my address, and they came loose in an envelope with compliments slip a few days later...

Do they replace mising studs and worn studs?

I've got them on the trike and it's extra fun listening to them scrabble on the road when one of the back wheels starts to lift up.

They just send you studs, then you push them in with a screwdriver. It's a little fiddly, but in a good way.

I suppose what I really meant was if all 240 get worn down will they send you a full set?

Go Kirst! If I was on Twitter, I'd be doing that 'RT' thing.

Hovering about +3ºC at KB at the moment, which means it must be about +1.5 at my house. I was rather hoping I wouldn't need to break out the spiky bike this week! :-(

The first winter storm arrived in New York City on Saturday, blanketing the High Line with a light coating of snow. Our maintenance and operations staff arrived before dawn to begin clearing the pathways, making the park safe for visitors to enjoy the High Line’s winter landscape.

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to see that Dundee council gritting teams have done the main off road paths in the city centre. Just as well, as there was a heavy frost in the morning. Paths quite well used by pedestrians too so double motivation. Shows it can be done though.
