Calder Road around the jail is very very bad for cycling many sunken sections, some with cables visible, that can't be right.

"The bottom end of Merchiston ave (between Granville terrace and yeaman Place) is being totally redone - don't know if this means anything will happen further up or not."

Something is happening further up - at the opposite end of the street. The worst bits of surface have either been patched or are being patched. It could probably have done with complete resurfacing but perhaps the budget doesn't stretch to that.
Looking forward to riding down the big long new stretch of tarmac tonight...

I was massively unimpressed by the quality of the work done so far. I think a council trainee has just completed My-First-Pothole-Repair.

The fact that the road is now improved says more about its original state.

    More roller coaster riding tonight.

On the top of Merchiston Rd -- went over this yesterday am and have to agree - it just seems to be (bad) patches. Not worse than before, but not much better and I bet it will be just as bad by next winter, as the patches fray at the edges.

    What are they playing at?

Top but of Merchiston now done - the crappy patching must have been 'preparation' of some sort. BUt, will they do the middle???!!

Thanks SRD, I'd meant to update the thread to compliment the council on the wonderful resurfacing work and retract my previous slagging of their efforts.

On the middle section of the road they did seem to dribble a bit of spare tarmac into some of the worst holes, but it wasn't enough to make any difference. Not sure if it was a pre-req for a complete resurface though...
