black grouse much less common than the red, but they are native to those parts. Won't be ptarmigan as they'll be largely white at this time of year.

Had a Kestrel fly over the courtyard yesterday (Behind Fountainpark by the bypass) while I was out looking at the Great Tits. Had a few unknowns too. Very much Nightingale like but not sure if you get them here.

Skylark singing at the top of the climb from Middleton up to Blackhope on B7007 / NCN1 en route for Innerleithen. A lot of grouse cackling in the valley below and beyond.

Flushed out a big grey bird from the side of the road on A703 heading home, carrying something large in its talons for dinner. Probably a buzzard but didn't get a great look as I was concentrating on racing the rain home.

Kaputnik - you must have been on the same roads as me - but didn't see you. The skylarks are very uplifting

Not sure if this counts, but there was a frog sitting just outside my garage up-and-over door this evening when I got back from my ride. Luckily I didn't wheel the bike over it before I saw it. Seemed not to mind me, it just stared impassively until I shut the door.

kaputnik, were you one of the cyclists I saw coming down the Granites towards Edinburgh? One guy waiting on three others.

Partridge pair near Whitecraig this am.

Also lovely whiff on Innocent as ramsons/garlic has been trimmed.

Skylark and yellow hammer near Whitecraig - giving a very summery feel.

Goosander pair squeezed into the burn in Bingham

  24. As I sat on the rock by the Innocent today I was treated to Gold, Green and Chaf Finches; Blue, Great, Coal and Long-Tailed Tits; a Robin; Mallard ducks; Crows; Woodpigeons; a probable Wren flitting about in a bush in front of me; and Rabbits.

Amir, you may well have cycled past me!
