Saw a bumble bee in the hedges at work. Saw a butterfly fluttering around South Gyle station. Looked a bit like a peacock.
Lovely photo chdot. If I didn't like yellow so much I'd do my bike up like a ladybird.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

"Owl centre owners to move to Lothians with their 100 birds"

"...the largest collection of trained owls in the world..."
Perhaps they'll sell pellets encased in epoxy in their gift shop. I like that they're going to start introducing small mammals. It'll be like that fox-and-chickens-across-the-river puzzle.
Saw a heron flying along the canal near Slateford this evening pursued by an angry mob of gulls. It was pulling some quite impressive aerobatics for such a big bird.
Whenever I see an airborne heron I am reminded of Jurassic Park. There's something of the dinosaur about them (and I don't mean that birds are descended from dinosaurs, I mean that they look like pterodactyls...)
It's toad stunt time of year -
They've taped "cyclists - caution - toads" signs all the way around the Arthur's Seat Road. Little red traingle with a toad in it graphic.
Trying to remember what Amir and I saw on the Moffat Toffee today;
Buzzard
Peregrine
Goldeneye (2m, 5f)
Merganser (1f, 1 pair)
Hare
Chiff Chaff (heard)
Thrush (heard)
Oystercatcher
Curlew
Plenty pheasant, alive and squissed
Squished toads
Lambs. Sheep having lambs
Ducks, chickens, cows and horses
Don't forget the superspot:
Crossbill (just north of Hawick)
You had a great day for it!
Crossbill]
Of course, how could I forget? Someone had obviously stolen his pinecones.
The Crossbill is a cracking spot - still not seen one in this country!

Has anyone actually seen any yet this year? My family went up yesterday (by bicycle, but w/out me) but didn't see any.
Of course, last time we did this, I was the only one who spotted any, so the toads may have been there but not spotted?
Lesser spotted then!? or red spotted?
"TITS are bouncing back in British gardens, a survey reveals."
No really, wildlife news -
awesome, thanks for sharing that. I indeed admired your bullfinches. If it's allowed, I also admired your tit.
Nice video.
I wish the bullfinches round here would eat from the feeder rather than the buds on my apple tree.
"If it's allowed, I also admired your tit. "
You could have got a pair if I had figured out the editing software.
"I wish the bullfinches round here would eat from the feeder rather than the buds on my apple tree. "
Yes I suspect mine eat the apple and pear trees as well. They are so pretty though.
Seagull seen treading on the spot on playing field in Bingham, presumably to encourage earthworms to come to the surface. I wonder (1) if this is a fairly recently learned behaviour (i.e. last 50 years) (2) how long it takes.
"I wonder (1) if this is a fairly recently learned behaviour"
Seems unlikely.
I was 'told' that birds (not just seagulls) do this to mimic rainfall which encourages worms to the surface.
Rain has been falling for a long time.
Ah but hasn't there been a shift in seagull feeding to more inland? - see:
I do like dancing seagulls. I've also been "told" that it's to do with attracting beasties to the surface for noms. Apparently it is a behaviour that has to be learned from other birds, but you'd have to ask the seagulls to be sure.
Ooo my eyes, the flies ...
Note to self - take sunnies
Oh yes now I remember cycling into the first cloud of flies of the year on Moffat Toffee and remembering how much I hate cycling into clouds of flies.
Nice vid Ant.

Must go! Haven't been for years. Always was something of a 'hidden gem' - with a great pond/swamp, (and general neglect).
Great potential for links to local path networks and new housing developments (not sure if any of this has happened).
"not that it really leads anywhere much at the moment"
Leads to Easter Road and Leith Links - more of a 'leisure'' route than a transport one - though IF they ever sorted the Seafield to Porty links/paths...
ALSO - if/when they 're-located' the Powderhall refuse depot (can't find a new site that people don't object to!!) there will(?) be a fabulous 'railway path' that joins up with the whole North Edinburgh Path Network.
I saw a weasely looking thing running about the highland showground this morning. Red-long body and long tail, thought it was a squirrel at first glance. Don't think it was a stoat.
Would have snapped it on phone, only I was on phone.
Cute little thing though.
