I think I saw/heard a pair of ravens overhead just east of the Innocent tunnel. I didn't realise that there were any in town.

Ooh, have heard of them reported around there, but not seen them yet.
Definitely Waxwings back in town - reported in a few places over the last week, small flock reported in Coates Crescent yesterday. Which would be why I have the big lens on the camera today and harbour a hope that this brighter weather holds for lunchtime...

I didn't realise that there were any in town.
Enormous raven regularly visits roof of my parents' next door neighbour. You can hear it's claws scrabbling about struts around on the galvanised ridge. They are about half way up Corstorphine Hill.

I have thought I have heard/seen Ravens occasionally round there but have never been sure.

Thrushy thing in the berry tree out the back. Couldn't quite tell whether Fieldfare or Redwing as it flew off just as I got the bins on it but I think Redwing.

Long Tailed Duck and Little Grebe off the sea wall near the Musselburgh hides. Still quite rough but not as bad as yesterday.
On the main lagoon (left hide)
26 Drake Teal, 24 Female
40+ Bar Tailed Godwits
30+ Grey and Golden Plover on the main lagoon along with the usual assortment of gulls in various plumages and around 90+ Oystercatcher.Gadwall and Wigeon on th boating pond.
A fun day but shorts were a mistake...

Sparrowhawk flying towards myself and the dog at the Gorgie/Dalry park next to the Telfer Subway.
It then went over the western approach road, flew high up while being mobbed by a Carrion Crow.

Waxwings, finally. About 60 in a tree right beside Princes Street by St John's Church. Too high up for any decent shots (though got some just to record the sighting...). This after chasing a Treecreeper about in the Gardens (some good photos of that) and rounded off with a high-up Sparrowhawk being hassled by a gull (which is presumably what also spooked the Waxwings into flying off in a westerly direction).
Tomorrow I bring the big lens I think (and so everything will go into hiding again).

Drafted by a crowd of long tailed toys. Nearest one was flying just in front of my knee. Was worried that it might try to go through the wheel.

Long-Taileds are lovely wee things (I'll save you the photos).
Played spot the Kestrel walking the south Arthur's Seat road this afternoon. Sparrowhawk heading back to Duddingston, then down at the Figgy as well as the usual suspects the one Shoveler is now TWO Shovelers (cool, hopefully they'll be settling...); a Goosander; and a Cormorant. Little Grebes running about as well.

Deep breath (west end of Princes Street Gardens at lunchtime just now)
A few (very high up) Waxwings; Mistle Thrush; Blackbirds; Blue, Great and Long-Tailed birds the real name of which will probably be spam frittered; Bullfinches; Chaffinches; Sparrows (House); Dunnocks; Pigeons (wood and feral); Rat; Grey Squirrels; AND suspected Peregrine (though annoyingly the one good shot I got before it took off the head is obscured by a branch, managed to quick in flights, but slightly blurry so can't work out if the whole eye is yellow (Sparrowhawk) or not (Peregrine).
Not bad for one lunch hour...

More Waxwings again, only briefly. Theycircled around berry laden trees in PSG, but a Mistle Thrush is gettnig rather territorial about them, so they were there all of a minute...
Nice couple of Treecreepers as well.

Swan family - 2 adults, 4 near full size juveniles - going down canal, looking remarkably serene considering tree branches lashing around above them, except one juvenile which kept being blown into the bank...

Around 40 waxwings the other day at the Gorgie/Dalry community park up from Lidl. They were making some racket. Flew off silently when looking at my camera and spotted a kestrel further down the path past the multicourt.
He caught a mouse next to the path, disappeared over Dalry but came back and eventually settled on a tree.I got this video of him munching away.

I read an amusing diary of a cycle from Denmark to the North Cape and back via Finland, written (in English) by a first language German speaker.
He carried his pipe with him. He was amazed by how many midgets he managed to kill with his pipe. Indeed he lost count of the number of midgets that he killed.
