This makes me quite sad. What do people think otters eat, for crying out loud? Tomato and lettuce salads with a sprinkle of olive oil? And what have we done to our environment in which the natural order of things has been so diluted and pushed out of sight and out of mind under Signor Pirelli's finest that we have lost all our senses?

Well, I’d assumed it was things found in water.
It’s a very long time since I read Ring of Bright Water. I remember otters being kept in a bath, but not what they were fed.
Otters are famously omnivorous. They don't even need open water to breed.
Wood pigeons have become utterly complacent in Edinburgh due to the scarcity of serious predators. They should be terrified of peregrines, goshawks, pine martins and foxes not waddling about like obese parrots.
This is a good development.
Pigeons are such obvious food for predators. I mean, they are asking for it.

Bird of prey above the motorway in Nottinghamshire - about buzzard sized but more slender with a very pronounced forked tail. Assuming it was a red kite after looking up the resident species on a Nottinghamshire website.
Spotted a live slow worm for the first time today :)
Hedgehog in our garden last night. Dog very interested and got to it before I realised what was happening, but at least had the sense to not go beyond sniffing.
Something in the rain today has driven the wee birdies berserk. Blue tits, coal tits, one great tit, many sparrows and a wee wren, all bombing around the garden in a frenzy
Kindly speculate wildly as to the source of the excitement.

Yes they did look drunk on a potent combo of hawthorn berries, Rose hip syrup and apple sauce cider
Putting the bin out there the crows were mobbing each other and yesterday morning the Greek ponies that the owner of Famous Ted and Famous Seamus (Highland Pnies) rescued because terrible things were happening to them were running about their field totally madly, just chasing each other nd running about drunk on mist and mellow fruitfulness
Also beautiful flock of goldfinches at Clubbiedean in the late afternoon sun. Lot of puddles up that way
Fallow deer near Silverdale in Cumbria
Peregrine falcon observed heading north from my home desk. Pigeons flustered but not panicked which suggests they don't often see one.
Just back from a ride up the WoL path and round the reservoirs in the dark. The only wildlife on the ride was one rabbit and some rustling in the undergrowth on the WoL path then an owl by Torduff Reservoir. Bit disappointing.
Until I got near home, when, at the west end of Morningside Drive, I saw a badger crossing the road. I stopped to look at it. It stopped to look at me. Then we both went on our respective ways.

A seal in the water at Aberdour cruising effortlessly along the coastline, close enough to see what the all the noise was on the beach (my kids)
Weasel whizzing across the A68 just before the 30 limit signs at the south end of Pathhead. Timed it well: it had plenty of time to get across in front of me, and there was nothing coming the other way :)

Good it made it. The last two weasels I have spotted have been ex-weasels
Roe deer in the middle of the road (Campbell Avenue, back street ratrun in Murrayfield). Found it later in the little woods beside the road. Signets learning to fly in Blackford Pond. Second time in a week I've had to rescue carry one back from wandering around in the middle of Cluny Gardens after it overflew the fence. Learnt the carrying technique from a geese keeper who rescued it the first time. Drivers still speeding around it despite the crowd of helpers.
Thats Signets, Otters , Badgers and Foxes that have been spotted wandering around that pleasant welcoming road recently.
