According to the app, that would put you in third, beaten by 2:57 and 2:29. Although you'll probably need to app to get an exact measure because you can't tell where the "official" start and end of the segment are.

Just had my first try & I do like this.

Pah. Beat my time up the Willowbrae Road rise this morning. And dropped 3 places down the pecking order.
This really does make you ponder your routes... I wonder if I'll be able to commute again without thinking "Well, I've done this segment in this time before, so I really should push it, can't take it easy"
Posted 12 years ago # -
I really pushed one segment last night, out of Colinton village up to Lanark Road, the drat gps was consistently about 5m out so it looked like I was riding up the valley wall and consequently my effort was even more wasted than just spinning up like I usually do.

"This really does make you ponder your routes"
It also makes me change the way I ride - resting between segments. That sounds like interval training so it is probably good.

"That sounds like interval training"
One advantage of riding mostly in the city and assiduously stopping at lights and so on is that you get plenty of opportunities to mix in lots of rapid-acceleration with the usual keeping-up-speed but without having to make a special effort to do anything other than move around from place to place.

"One advantage of riding mostly in the city"
Perhaps where I am going wrong is to choose routes with few junctions.

Damn you all. Am I going to have to buy another GPS?
A colleague of mine holds the Roseburn ascent record it turns out. Is it cheating to dig out old GPS traces and put them up?

"the drat gps was consistently about 5m out"
So how accurate does it have to be?

And it's so much more fun to have virtual (or real) race than to just go faster.
Posted 12 years ago # -
So how accurate does it have to be?
Don't think it was lack of accuracy so much as reading about 5m to the left across the whole segment. so the recorded track wasn't on the road but some where down the valley on an imaginary road..

Think my Strava my have gone a bit mad as its clocked me going at 55mph along a flat. I'm not even sweating, in this heat I don't think that's right ha! I've only ever got 33mph down Dublin street so something's gone a bit wrong.
Posted 12 years ago # -
HA! I had to dig (and dig) but...
http://app.strava.com/segments/929101 , and so on. Will be some good banter at work tomorrow :D

Anth: Pah. Beat my time up the Willowbrae Road rise this morning. And dropped 3 places down the pecking order.
I'll see you that and raise you getting my mornin' commute PB and being scalped by a chap riding an MTB and an easy decade older than me.

Any one know how to follow people? I'm trying to add my buddy but can't see any where but the Recommended bit.

"Any one know how to follow people? "
I am finding this difficult as well. I only seem to be able to find those that are suggested.

Oops - I need to make sure that I know where the segments finish. I did the Milton Road segment this am and put in a good effort. However I turned off for the Innocent cycle path and missed the end which is nearer to the traffic lights.

"Any one know how to follow people?"
If you click on "Explore" there is an "Athlete Search" facility.
Alternatively if you can find their time on a segment then click on the date they recorded the time. This shows you the whole ride they did when recording that segment time and you will be able to click on the name and link to their profile where there should be a "follow" button.
Worth setting up a CCE "Club"? I think you can join as many clubs as you like on it and then folk on here can find each other.
Posted 12 years ago # -
I like the idea of a CCE club - will make finding folk easy. Here's my ride from yesterday:
http://app.strava.com/rides/9239909
The speed is definitely off in places - it reckons my top speed was 50mph which I know I'm not capable of! It must happen when the gps lags out and catches up?

I'm in. Don't laugh at me :(
My last segments round Arthurs seat look particularly bad because I had a twenty minute stop at the top to have breakfast...
Posted 12 years ago # -
Well as I stormed up Broughton Street this morning I got near the top feeling pretty good abot myself and then suddenly felt deflated as I realized I had not turned on Strava this morning.... :o(
I've joined the CE group, thanks for creating it Amir.
I've found a way to get to the top of a leader board, create you're own segment... ;-)

"I've found a way to get to the top of a leader board, create you're own segment..."
Don't get too smug Dave, it will automatically go back and populate the leaderboard based on people who submitted data over that segment before you created it. Give it a few hours and go back and you may find your KOM was actually beaten last year!
I've got a wee battle going on with a couple of other guys over a short but nasty hill near my house at the moment. Thought I'd done a good time last night but when I got home I found the app had crashed and only recorded 1.3 miles of my 30 mile ride!

Excellent, thanks must have been being blind last night.

Anyone have trouble uploading photos to Strava? I was going to put one for me and for CCE. It seems to recognise the photo (since it is presented for trimming) then fails to upload.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Does it have a secret picture filesize limit?
Posted 12 years ago # -
I managed to upload a pic but I can't remember what size I used.
Posted 12 years ago # -
I managed to upload my ugly mug to Strava (for info it was a 2136 KB jpeg).
