  1. Hoping the weather holds for tomorrow morning. Last year I rode up to a spot on the slopes of Arthur's Seat for a wee cooked brekkie. Planning on doing the same tomorrow. Get there a wee bit after 7 I reckon - camp stove, some bacon, maybe an egg, couple of (homemade GF) potato scones; coffee in a thermos mug.

I'll be atop the knobble on the left just before the road turns downwards again, overlooking the uni halls, below where the kestrel is normally hanging out.

Means I can also have my first Strava crack at the Arthur's Seat climb.

This sounds like a nice idea and probably good to grab the good weather while we can. I'd up up for it if I can find your knobble (ooh er).

My stove currently missing its piezo so won't light, but if I can dig myself out of bed in time I will bring coffee and a prepared cold breakfast.

ah yes, anth, can you give us more precise knobble location please! I'll probably ride up the "wrong way" to it...

I think he means the wee ridge bit. There's a gap in the wall and a wee path leading to it.

Opps I can see this going wrong for Anth.

    #AnthBreakfastRide

    Ingredients:
    3lb of Smoked bacon,
    2 dozen eggs,
    15 tattie scones,
    one dozen potato scones,
    2 litres of Tea,
    13 esspressos....

    ;O)

  8. Precise-a-mundo Mr Pig. That's the one.

    Exact GoogleMaps Location: http://g.co/maps/d8ecy

@Stepdoh, I've basically just got a standard tattie scone recipe but use GF flour instead, though sometimes needs an egg yolk adding for a bit of moisture to make them easier to roll and cut. I'll dig it out tonight for you (will have to find it anyway to make the scones).

@Cb, probably possible, but they've tried to be too clever with the design, the piezo sparks in an area not easily accessible. Perhaps that's deliberate, perhaps not. It's not normally happy lighting via a lighter, or whatever, and tends to do a minor explosion when it does!

Say that ten times quickly! Homemade GF is where you take a felt-tip pen and draw a face on an egg. :> I think Anth meant gluten-free.

Could I be a nuisance and ask for porridge?

  16. @Insto - was just a sudden whim this afternoon, will try for midweek if the weather holds as well!

    @Tom - you can ask. Certainly. ;)

Ha. It's fine. On any other Friday I'd have made the effort and gone to work for it but it's M's birthday tomorrow. Friday's the day for doing these things.

I should be able to make it for before-eightish. As I have more flasks than a gentleman strictly requires in order to make it through a working day without having to buy coffee by the cup I can probably bring a spare litre-and-an-half or so of coffee if anyone was fretting about the logistics of getting to the wee ridgey bit with a filled thermal mug.

I'm living up to the stereotype of outside-breakfasting early morning cyclists and bringing my museli. Hope that's allowed at a cook-out...

Ergh. Up before 6 so I can pack for Skye, fix the bike and still pop in sociably for a bite, and what do I find? SEA HAR.

Keeping my fingers crossed it gets annihilated in the next hour!

Twitter indicates that anth is at least somewhere outside where there is grass, but the hast conceals the true location.

Fire at Arthur's Seat now extinguished by crews. Control got about 40 calls to approximately 100 sq metres gorse and scrubland alight.

Maybe it's smoke rather than haar? ;o)
    View from Anth's breakfast table

I looked out the window at 6.50, saw the haar and went back to bed. #Fairweatherbreakfaster

I made it a little bit late, poked around the place, saw some promising silhouettes that turned out to be gorse bushes in the haar so eventually slithered back to the road and just finished my breakfast at my desk instead.

Shame you missed us Kappers. I am not sure I would have walked as far along the ridge as where we were. I only found Anth because I went further on thinking I might be in the wrong place and then came back at it from a different path to make my breakfast anyway. It was a bit like being at the end of the world though.
