  1. Seriously considering this as my first foray into CX (partly because it's summer...) - c'mon, who's up for it?

I'll leave that for the pros ;)

  4. I've suggested to Craig Hardie (CX legend what DaveC knows, and who told me about the Aberdour event) that I'll run a sweep on how many times he laps me.

I believe the course will go through the beer tent. I plan to be there and will happily pelt you with chips and spray you with belgian lager (I'll try to make it gluten free :p ).

Aberdour? I'm sure I could make that a family day out although I'm unlikely to waste good chips and beer.

  8. I'm a little terrified of this; and excited by it, all at the same time...

  9. The terror has firmly set in. Just a week and a half to go - I've been querying on twitter how far the 'average' cyclocrosser will cover in the hour. Apparently 10-15 miles, depending on conditions and obstacles etc. Going to head out on Thursday night and do loops on the grass of the two nearby parks, moving between them to fend of monotony, for a hour to see how far I go.

Allegedly the trick is to keep yourself on the very edge of vomiting the whole time.

    This is fun apparently.

Mel and her dad might be coming up with me, so there should be pics of my pain - race starts at 8pm I think (I'm going to be wrecked at work the next day).

Do you have a spare set of cleat-shoes for getting to work the next week when repeated washings fail to cleanse all the mud and smell off the ones you use to race in?

I didn't realise it started so late... An 8pm start means I can watch the final stage of the TdF then rock up to Aberdour after.

I'll have to look into public transport options to enable taking benefit of the beer tent.

  12. PS, if Mel and her dad are coming you'll have a readymade lift home.

EDIT: in fact, if they're not coming I'll be driving myself up anyway, so feel free to hitch a lift.

Ah, most kind. Although I warn you after a couple of belgian beers and some frites and mayonnaise I'll soon be asleep in the back...

I'm back! 8pm on Sunday? I'll check with the missus to see if we're back in time. Can I enter on the day?

The brakes are shot on my CX bike... but if I'm racing I don't need brakes right? [Famous last words]

dambed slow interweb. I keep clicking and it says 'slow down you move too fast'.. bler!!

  19. Sorry, yes, 22nd. So much on these next few weeks I keep getting dates completely skewed.

I am also signed up - I've been training pretty hard for a while but need to get my bike up to scratch! Ordering parts like nothing else. Currently missing a cassette, chain and new tyres....
Might need to cadge a lift up with you if that was ok?

Tempted to cycle there and back. 9pm finish is by definition, hour'n'bit for post-ride things, back home by midnight.

The obvious flaw is that my navigation is exceptionally poor in daylight, so at night I'm liable to wind up in Poland before finding home to Polwarth.

Laughed out loud at your Poland coment Bruce. I can supply directions and a map if you need Bruce! I could probably cycle that ride in my sleep.

  24. ARobComp - pushed for space in the car with four people already (probable). It's just a wee car. If my other half and father-in-law wind up not coming then I'll have space, should know for sure by the middle of the week what their plans are - no bother if they're not there, but probably safer to see if there's an alternative... Sorry!

Had a few spins round the waterlogged grass parks near the house at the weekend. This is going to be so hard, I don't think anyone on Twitter was exaggerating... Still, I realised the other day I hadn't got round to spinning out some new cycling kit for this, the bike being pretty much in place and ready, so have splashed out on a retro style Molteni bike jersey so I can at least look the part...

If weather isn't appaling I should make it along, I would be riding there and back, Bruce, if you wanted to combine forces?

I shall make alternative arrangements - no problems. If you do get space and you could give me a shout would be appreciated!

The parts for my bike are stuck in the delivery depot in livingston....

Just went out for a wee spin on my newly repaired CX. Was a great ride although I found one thing that made cycling offroad REALLY hard.

Freshly cut grass. Seriously - I ended up with a completely clogged front and rear wheel and had to stop to clear it out as couldnt brake and pedling was HARD.

Mud was fine, rough was fine. Looking forward to Sunday again. Just need to make sure I'm fueled up as tonights ride on about 600 calories (muffin and some noodles for lunch) for the day was a bit of a stretch!

@Kaputniq I believe we have a plan. Well, a plan to make a plan, at an rate.

@DaveC: I've essentially already asked you for routes, in the sense that shortly after the notion to cycle popped into my head, I looked at your Strava account. It's just that Aberdour-Dalgety bit needing finalised. What d'you recommend there?

Staying west of the former Eastern Bloc would presumably be a grand start...

Ideally If I do end up there on my own - is there any chance that someone who will be watching could watch my bag! I don't know where I'll be able to store it otherwise!
