Just to let everyone know, *10 councillors* (so far) are going on the breakfast bike rides.

The main thing now is getting other cyclists on the ride too!

If anyone wants to pick up posters or leaflets, let me know. Spread the word, etc! :)

    Thanks all!

    PRESS RELEASE (by lionfish)

    "

Headline: Councillors join cyclists in breakfast bike ride

    Article:
Ten of Edinburgh's councillors will be joining cyclists on rides from across the city on Wednesday. The rides converge on the City Chambers, where the annual SPOKES bike breakfast will be taking place.
'After the success of Pedal on Parliament, we wanted to show this city's councillors what cycling is like here.' explained Lyndsey McLellan, one of the cyclists planning to take part in the ride from Shandon.
The organisers hope to raise awareness of some of the problems cyclists face, but also want to show how convenient and healthy cycling can be.
There are nine rides, starting from wards across the city. To find the ride that leaves from your ward, you can visit http://www.breakfastbikeride.org.uk.

  4. Maureen Child's latest email newsletter:

I was slightly previous on the bike ride rendezvous on Wednesday morning. You would be very welcome to join a ride from Portobello to the City Chambers for the annual Bike Breakfast provided by Edinburgh Council on the morning of Wednesday 20 June, meeting at the junction of Brighton Place and the High Street, in Portobello. Setting off at 7:30am (so meeting from 7:20am) pretty much on cycle path as far as St Leonard's. The route is here:http://breakfastbikeride.org.uk/pwp/wordpress/?page_id=13 See you there!

I e-mailed Cameron Rose about whether he's cycling in from Newington with the ride and whether he'd pop it up on his blog and he was happy to!
    http://cameronrose.blogspot.co.uk/

I thought that was jolly nice of him!

Not heard back from Jim Orr yet but hopefully he'll come along on the ride too! Now to fix my bike!

ARobComp: Jim Orr's also coming I think. Surprised he's not got back to you.

Thanks anth and chdot for sorting all that out! I'll have to send a message to #bike20 too...

I think all the posters are up, minimoth and I have ~150 fliers still to distribute.

There's links to the poster/flier images here if you want to print more:

Just emailed all the MPs, MSPs and MEPs with the press release to see if anyone wants to come. Sarah Boyack is on the cycling group......... didn't know that. Fingers crossed she comes to one of the rides. I think Marco is unlikely to as he doesn't cycle I don't think but would probably support. Alison Johnston (Green) would hope so. Does anyone know of any cycling MSPs? Will the MPs be in Westminister on a Wednesday morning?

I'll let people know when I hear back.

Thanks minimoth and SRD! I saw the chalk messages this morning. Also very happy the canal people didn't take down my posters :)

@minimoth: I just looked in the breakfastbikeride email, and I'm afraid Sarah Boyack can't make it:
Thank you for your email informing Sarah of the Breakfast Bike Ride. Unfortunately due to prior commitments Sarah is unable to attend but she sends her best wishes for a successful event.
I guess we should have sent more messages to MPs and MSPs earlier. I was focused on the council.

I noticed that the writing on MMW got the #tag wrong. #BIK20 not #bike20. I'm monitoring both on tweetdeck and will endeavour to correct anyone who was sent the wrong way.... ;)

@SRD & @ARobComp: I corrected them ;) I put some more down - amazing how quick the chalk runs out.

@SRD: Hi! I guess we should chalk before the rush! What time are you thinking of?

(agh! not done enough work today!!!)

(actually - don't worry about work! That can wait!)

What time are you thinking of heading out?

    4:30?

    @minimoth: Are you about?

(going to be embarrassed by people seeing my dodgy bike - really need to fix it! where's my toolkit gone?!)

probably sooner...if only to reach more folk/avoid some of the worst crowds

for 3 years I rode a very generic and icky blue EBC hybrid and no one on the forum ever mentioned it (to my face at least).

oh, and the helios is squeaking something dreadful...

@SRD: Ah! Minimoth's just reminded me I've got an Amnesty event this evening in town at 6pm. Maybe I can meet you to get more chalk and I'll do chalking in another direction? (e.g. top of innocence cycle path)?

Also just a thought - I am meant to be "leading the ride" tomorrow to the event. Should we just go direct or do a bit of a round about route? Is there a specific target time to arrive?

    @ARobComp: I think I was aiming for 8:30am arrival.
I think this google map had some ideas for the route (which one are you doing again?!!)

    https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=207768248179939652147.0004bf0ad203f6167d74f&msa=0&ie=UTF8&t=m&source=embed&ll=55.94795,-3.212299&spn=0.057673,0.102825&z=13

(will talk more - just gotta go get chalk!!!)

ArobComp if you can tell me which ride you're leading, I may be able to help regarding the route. Otherwise, someone will definitely get back to you later today.

Thanks ARobComp! Hopefully you got my facebook message.

@SRD: Saw all the chalking along the canal - fantastic job :) although one message had been erased by a dog dripping canal water across the path. See you tomorrow!

@chdot: Love the photo! (sticking it on the facebook page :)

afterwards there will be bike lovers gathering from 11am at Festival Square

...while the rest of us have offices to slave away in!

I'll try to put in an appearance tomorrow. I noticed the chalk on MMW on my way home today and managed to read an upside down "WEDNESDAY" and, incredibly, thought to myself, "Hmm. Probably students, or the festival's starting in earnest."

@DaveC: don't worry, I don't do the crack of dawn either.
