Kings junction this morning, there were 9 cyclists going E-W
i'd say there are normally 2-3, sometimes 4-5 but 9 impressed me.

If the young man who passed me and my single speed (slow) steed at The Scottish Gov't Regent Road, and then exchanged pleasantries at various Princes St lights was a CCE'er, then HELLO!
Exiting Roseburn Park at Riversdale Crescent this morning, I was met with a stringed out peloton of 7!
I'd put money on more people winter commuting by bike.

Easy one this: Arellcat northbound at Morningside Station at 4ish. Easy because she was in the red torpedo.
I was hiding on the top deck of a Number 23 with micro-Greenroofer on the way back from BikeTrax where I'd bought a Brompton Seat Post height insert.
We walked there from Morningside. En route we saw in Bruntsfield a green Brompton locked to a signpost (perhaps owned by a gent we saw shortly after on foot and wearing a matching green bike helmet who looked like he might be a Brompton owner). We also saw a nice grey Trek Soho chained to a different sign.

Quidditch game going on in Meadows. Spotted by my co~pilot on an LB recumbent tandem test run. Overtook one of the Uni students on way back. She had a broomstick slung over her back...:-)

Guy with ERC top, on a touring bike, track standing (successfully) for over a minute at a red light.

I saw that guy twice last week, on the really windy days. Looked like he'd be pretty vulnerable to a sideways gust.

The fairings came about as a defence against windchill. There must be a price to be paid in cross-wind stability, but the fairings have stayed on for at least twelve years now. The rider is scientifically educated and a robust empiricist, unhindered by precedent.

Gembo, were you waiting at the lights at the western end of the aqueduct when I went past? I saw a cyclist wearing a red jacket and did wonder if that was you. I was a bit earlier on the road today than usual.

@arellcat, yes that is the place where I usually spot you. Today you were going around the corner and I waved but your rapid speed would have meant you only spotted me out of the corner of your eye.

Alas I had deployed the torpedo's insulating spraydeck for more warmth; its closely fitted shape makes it hard for the pilot to wave to people.

Ah yes, you need a lever thT can be operated from inside the cockpit and under the insulating spray deck which raises a little carbon hand on a little carbon stick.??

A minor cat emergency meant I left home late this morning, but the silver lining was that I spotted HankChief on his way to work. I was disguised on my MTB with spikey tyres, but he still spotted me in return.
This evening on the way home, I accompanied a gent from Fiveways up to Roseburn and had a good chat about whether a road bike was suitable considering how cold it was, amongst other things. We separated at Roseburn as I like the daily battle along the bus lanes with taxis, whereas he prefers the (comparative) stress free route along the paths etc.

@kenny - I was quite surprised to see you as I thought I was running late as well. Extra layers take a lot of time to put on and off.

I've been playing it cautious due to the cold. I've had enough of it though and am likely to risk the commuter road bike tomorrow, unless wet stuff falls from the sky overnight.

Old school silver Specialized Rockhopper on the Helensburgh via Bathgate train. 4-row winter studded tyres, full length mudguards and lots of lights. Fits the bill as a CCEr?

Urban Arrow heading West on Glenallan Drive last night. Rider heavily swaddled and lit. Don't think it was either Weezee or Mr Weezee. Roibeard has a new steed? Liberton has a new specialist cyclist?

Kappers, if that was a singlespeed conversion that'd almost certainly be Markus, known to shuggiet and I, but I don't think he was on a train yesterday, if I remember Strava correctly.

@Uberuce didn't see the back of the bike to see if it was geared or not, but it was this morning, not yestertag. Disembarked at Edinburgh Pork and headed west from there.

Update. The Spesh has a derailleur. There's a man with a hub geared Dahon folder in a full fluorescent suit here too.

@gembo that's twice you've spotted me and I haven't seen you.
Anorak is cheap-o packable thing from Decathlon. Not at all breathable so easy to get sweaty in, but does the job for what it is and what I paid for it. Nice red colour too :-)
