    Someone last night in a fluo jacket who appeared to be comfortably levitating their way up London Road towards Abbeyhill. Turns out that's what a recumbent in the distance looks like.

    I couple I have spotted before on the way in, through Dalmeny Estate. I stopped (she had a puncture) but they were done and so I just cycled in with them. I wonder if they are on here? He has a huge beard, that even Uber Bruce would be proud to own!

    Then as I was cycling E on NEPN a man shouting Single File and waving manically!! I looked on in surprise as it was a fellow oncoming cyclist shouting at me and the lady as we headed for 5 ways Jct.

    I spotted Fimm ( I think) in Harrison park on saturday. I was disguised as a roadie after a foggy blast up the Lang Whang and around the pentlands, and I think I've only met her a few times at PY briefly while dressed in my more common non-helmeted, be-shorted attire. Sorry if I confused you with my wave!

    Aha! Yes, I'm afraid I was confused.
    You are also entitled to a Spot of the shy and elusive Boyfriend Of Fimm, as he was with me.

    Yes I guessed that you were out on a valentines day ramble ;) For some reason my SO didn't fancy 100km of (romantic) fast hilly riding in the cold fog and chose a run along the coast from north berwick. Think She made the better choice!

    We'd talked about going cycling together but didn't like the look of the weather for a pleasant pootle, so we wandered to the Farmers' Market and then to Bruntsfield for coffee and then back along the canal.

    He of Murray Moves in the "cyclists: stay awesome" van at Picardy Place this morning.

    How many Murrays would Murray Moves Move if Murray Moves could move Murrays?

    Long shot, this one, but did I pass Nelly this evening?

    I'm a regular towpath commuter (West in the morning, East in the evening) so have an interest in CCE people who I might see on there. I've been passing a gent wearing a yellow helmet on a drop-barred bike that's very audibly had studded tyres for a couple of weeks, but the tyres recently got replaced with quiet ones. When Nelly starts writing about this and cormorant spots, I start putting two and two together.

    This evening, the might-be-Nelly person stopped at the eastern end of the aqueduct to wait for me to make my way along. I said 'thank you' as I passed, he replied 'cheers' before setting off.

    I'm on a black flat-barred bike, dynamo light on the fork crown, still with ice tyres and with red panniers.

    I'm yet to see Nelly sport anything on his head but a stylish cap, its winter plumage including a red light on the back.

    @Uberuce - my might-be-Nelly was definitely wearing a yellow helmet. Sounds like it's might-not-be-Nelly...

    Greenroofer, sadly Uberuce is correct, I am currently to be seen sporting a black Walz winter cap and riding a yellow genesis sans studs.

    My sojourn along the canal was a "blue moon" affair, I usually make do with the delights of the road system.

    Glad your canal chap was nice though!

    Did not like to rain on the parade but nelly commutes in same direction as Greenroofer so the kindly passing scenario was indeed a long shot

    Cycling across the Meadows I see another EUHPS Quiditch match is going on.

    They have all the gear set up and some use bikes you know!

    I then arrived at top of MMW and saw a man wearing black wearing a black full face balaclava with dark glasses. Quite visible in the sunshine. Cycling an MTB although I looked more at him than the bike.

    I saw and forgot to post about a man on an MTB in a full terrorist balaclava. He was coming from the Links last week.

    @Laidback

    I once put out a smouldering fire in a bin on MMW using water from the base of the Harry Potter Society's goal, which they happened to be dismantling.

    Fight fire with quiditch water I always say.

    It's most refreshing to see a telephone number without an area code or the ubiquitous +44 (0) on it, as if we'd ever be dialling a local call internationally

    Bearded bloke in shorts and t-shirt coming out of the Blood Donor centre as I was going in. Went to unlock a blue Genesis, so I'm guessing Uberuce?

    "It's most refreshing to see a telephone number without an area code "

    Yes, that does look quite tidy in that example, although arguably a visitor to the city may not know the area code so that would be a minor inconvience.

    What I don't get is the prevalence of small businesses that display a phone number without area code on their vehicles. Presumably the number is displayed to try and attract business, but you're presumably supposed to guess where they are from.

    A Marmite cycling top in the works changing rooms, not sure if wearer was a fully subscribed member of Team Marmite though.

    @kapps not had any subs from anyone at your work so probably an affiliate.

    @dougal - I was in team marmite - the jersey says Hate Jams on the back. Have had some positve feedback in a traffic jam when M8 was closed. Around shotts

    I switched allegiances to Team Tunnocks but now alas I have been seduced by Rapha. The sport wool does not smell like Lycra.

    @chdot spotted racer chained to Waitrose trolley railings at Morningside around 4pm. Had just been to that pizza express dedicated to Muriel spark and I thought referenincng 1965 Antonioni movie Blow Up (but without mime artistes tennis match with no balls). The up titled handle bars reminded me of one of yours.
