    Talking of elite sport -

An ex-teammate of former British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton has told a medical tribunal that anyone involved in cycling during the time they rode together would be “absolutely lying” if they denied first-hand knowledge of doping in the sport.

At 10:05 I got the last cycle parking spot at Morningside Waitrose this morning!

Great to see so many people not using motorised means.

Hauled a fair bit home in terms of a family shop in the Ortliebs - bit jealous of the Urban Arrow I was parked next to however......

Skinny person* in dark lycra, white helmet, hi-viz greenish-yellow bike doing laps of Holyrood Park. Passed the missus and myself at least three times as we completed a single, leisurely lap on foot this lunchtime.

I noticed that everyone still cycles clockwise on the normally one-way bit that takes you past Dunsapie Loch, even though the road is closed and therefore I would imagine that traffic regulations don't apply. I suppose if nothing else it reduces the chance of taking unsuspecting pedestrians by surprise. Good idea to segregate the 'footway' from the 'carriageway' on the steep/fast descent towards St Leonards.

    * Very "Belleville Rendezvous" according to the missus.

Forgot to mention that I bumped into Uberuce on Monday, on the Roslin-Shawfair bicycle expressway, and we had a nice chat.

@ejstubbs, is the road closed to all vehicles or closed to motor vehicles? Either way I can see that it would be legal or wise to cycle against the flow.

Pleasing school run this afternoon. Going down Middle Meadow Walk we passed a chap on a low-rider recumbent bike coming up the hill. It wasn't @LaidBack on board (or @Dave, for that matter).

At the Marchmont Road crossing we passed a woman with a box bike, which pleasingly had two headlights. It was very cool. She smilingly acknowledged my 'nice bike' comment.

JGPS was a throng of adults and children on bikes. As ever, it was rather wonderful.

Just back from a Lovely Ride (qv)...

In the course of that ride, I spotted:
@Morningsider outside Morningside Mansions getting maximum value out of the Council's Garden Waste service. The low sun meant that by the time I was within hailing distance I couldn't see anything in his direction, so I passed by silently.
@bill and @edinburgh87 in Colinton and then again in Balerno. I've never met either In Real Life before, but recognised @bill from pictures all over my social media. I introduced myself, but the A70 isn't really a great place for small talk...
In Balerno and again near Harperrig a gent with a fine red beard on an upright bike, apparently dressed in 1950's outdoor gear, with something like a faded orange Ventile top and a knitted bobble hat. Stylish, striking and very different.
At the top of Harperrig Hill, a couple on a red e-tandem with really fat tyres. Perhaps this. That looked like it might be a blast.

Nice to briefly bump into you too @greenroofer. I’m fairly racking up the CCE spots this year!

24 miles today – modest by even my own standards but it was all I had enthusiasm for – and I didn't spot anyone. Strava reported a flyby of the mighty Captain Asparagus, though, who was busy doing 70 miles more than me.

@Greenroofer great seeing you and thanks for introducing yourself! We were wondering along the way how you recognised us. My guess was that you recognised Edinburgh87's SBR jacket. Edinburgh87 thought that I was so popular. Sounds like the Edinburgh87 was a bit closer. I told him that we would probably bump into you again (once you did some extra climbs) and so we did.

@bill - you (and your bike) pop up on my Strava most days :-)

As you were both climbing ahead of me, I was assessing your bikes (I assume it's not only me who does that) and I thought "I recognise that bluey-purply-whitish colour, it's the same as @bill's bike" and then other pieces began to fall into place.

    that bluey-purply-whitish colour

@Greengroofer Evans Cycles said it was lilac. But I agree with your description more!

During that climb I was trying to stop my battery pack from jumping out on every bump/pothole after I didn't zip it properly. I pulled over on A70 to zip it.

Three-quarters of the SRDs trying to spot the otter at Dunsapie Loch. It was not to be spotted so they headed up Arthur's Seat instead. I'd been walking through the middle and round the back where it was extremely wet. Beautiful day for it though.

    @bax

My taxi driver mate once accidentally went up Goggsie Broon's drive at night and got the full red dot treatment.

@bax do you live on Stella Street?

I had the red dot treatment once when retuning from the pub. If I traced the dot on my chest back to source it came from British Army Rifle. Squaddie crouched on the corner, west Belfast 1994.

@IWRATS They have been doing night time routes out and about on random bits of gravel, trail, mudbath over the last few weeks as part of their work as Komoot ambassadors I suspect.

I’m a bit late for a reciprocal spot of jdsnielp. We went down the zig zag steps so as to maximise our vitamin D intake.
