Suggestion for next year (there will be a next year right?) - make it easy to link to individual events, it's easier to tweet them that way

I recently had the pleasure of helping to launch the first ever Edinburgh Festival of Cycling - the UK’s biggest cycling festival. The Council provided some funding as well as advice and support to the organisers for the packed calendar of events that runs to 23 June. This event helps us build on our already established reputation as a cycling city. The Council has committed six per cent of our travel budget to cycling with current projects including the A90 cycle route from Haymarket to Forth Bridge and the resurfacing and widening of North Meadow Walk. Encouraging and supporting cycling is of course a very positive move in terms of sustainable transport and I would encourage all who are able to consider it seriously.

Visited the map exhibition yesterday - excellent stuff with well informed staff to hand. I suppose 2pm on a weekday could be an odd time but I was still disappointed to see only half a dozen visitors on that session.
The Nicholas Oddy talk was fairly thought provoking, though again an "intimate" audience. Let's hope other events are getting a better turnout after the obviously considerable effort put in. As a bonus Nicholas was able to add a lot of historical detail to the map info.

was at mark beaumont during the week and he was excellent - been trying to make it to one of his talks for years. Decent turn out too.
Chapeau to the organisers!

How did it all go?
I was talking to someone from the mountaineering club who'd been to and enjoyed the talk by the woman who cycled round the world.Posted 12 years ago # -

We are about meet to talk about how things went this year & what to do next year. Do you want to see another Edinburgh Festival of Cycling?"

I would like to see another Festival of Cycling. Well done to Kim, Tracy, Ulli and the team that had to blaze the trail.
I'm not sure how ticket sales went but the events I attended were good. Having MCA over was fun although it would have been nice is media like Sunday Herald had picked up on more.
'Heels on Wheels' maybe should be re-named to be a family day event and if it could combine with Pavilion Cafe it may have got more 'non-commited' cyclists.
I certainly think we have a variety of cycling experiences to share but 'average' person still thinks it's a sport and need chamois cream to take part.
Related / not related cycling in media
Herald did a cycling supplement at weekend. Cover featured a woman with helmet at jaunty angle showing that cycling is safe and helmets are just a fashion item. "Get on your Bike in Style" was the headline. To be fair the Herald's Susan Swarbrick may well have wanted a different image on cover. Susan Swarbrick Herald Cycling Blog Inside is an ad for Cycletta Women's Only Bike Ride. Alpine are a big supporter of this extra.Posted 12 years ago #
