That was awesome. And what an achievement for young Philip Hindes. The Daily Mail's going to implode with the pent up forces of it's own perma-rage when it discovers he's German.

William Fotheringham on Radio 4 'quite within the rules to fall off'!
Posted 12 years ago # -
Story I heard this AM (may be wrong!) is that Hindes, a German by birth and by first language, was asked jokingly by an interviewer (Jill Douglas?) if he had been trying to pull a fast one (i.e. falling off deliberately), he, with his not-great-English, misunderstood and confirmed that, yes, he was trying to go fast.

Not the way it came across when I watched it. He seemed very clear what he was saying, Chris Hoy looked (to me) shocked that he was appearing to admit to faking a problem. I got the impression that it was a tactic that had previously been discussed, but looking at the comical execution, not practiced. Making the most of the rules I guess, but I'd not be happy if I was part of the German(?) team. Seemed less sporting than what the female badminton players did to me.
