Either I fell off one chicane earlier than I remember, or some poor person suffered the same fate as me just after the first one. There's a cyclist-sized flattened down area of weeds there, at any rate. I think I'll pop along once it's dark to see if by some chance the glasses got tangled in them and I can catch a reflection. If so, I will entirely take up your rake offer, SRD.

I've finally caught up with this again... Of course the canal is safer in one direction than the other - assuming you generally stay left. Then again the haze of alcohol could render this irrelevant.
Glad you're ok...Posted 12 years ago # -
don't drink and cycle!
I've done it a few times, but I usually take the pub bike. In my case the RSA20 fits the bill, pootley, stable, very unlikely to be nicked if locked outside a pub.
Being a middle aged parent of young kids I don't get out that often anyway, but only very rarely is there a canal on the way home. I daresay I'd rather take my chances on the road unless I was absolutely blootered, in which case bung the pub bike in a taxi and home that way...

Gavin Corbett @gavincorbett
Back cycling on canal, I saw a canal worker trying to fish a bike out of Longstone aqueduct following an incident earlier today. Slow down..

At the risk of sounding like a SafeSpeed eejit, how does Mr Corbett know speed was involved? (may well have been, but, well, Uberuce knows it's not necessary...)

Guy that I saw going into the drink was coming on too fast. even uberuce was probably going too fast after impairing his reaction time with alcohol.?
Was very windy in the middle of the aqueduct tonight so I slowed down to a walk. Indeed may have been my worst ever crossing of the aqueduct for some time. Still have Bradley chest infection, cycled about forty miles on commute today, aforementioned wind.
WoL path now dry, except small pothole puddles.
