I clicked on one of the new tram project's first tweets expecting to see loads of anti-tram abuse but was surprised to find only one reply, complaining that they weren't building the trams all the way to Granton. Sometimes you really can't win!

I only found out that there actually was a new @TramStoneWhaven (hehe) Twitter account as someone else had forwarded a tweet (I haven't seen it mentioned by @EdinburghTrams themselves, oddly), so possibly most of the antis haven't found it yet (although there have been a few more grumbles since)?

New Finnish PM Sanna Marin as chairperson of the City Council of Tampere in 2017.
This city first proposed a tramway in 1907.

The video is extremely amusing as colourful opponents of the tram dredge up reasons not to build it.

"Even the Siberian Flying Squirrel thanks us for not building the tram."

"Reminder: notification of works on Lindsay Road from tomorrow. To allow us to identify the location of utilities we will carry out two trial trenches in the area. This will mean a reduction to a single lane of traffic, controlled by temporary traffic lights."

Their tweet shows a graphical mockup of the Newhaven tram stop next to Sandpiper Drive, yet the Oct 2019 plans have truncated the line and moved the stop much further east. I have asked for answers:

"Why do the revised published plans show that the Newhaven tram stop would be located not where shown in this mockup, but ~200 m further east and well short of the Sandpiper Dr junction? Which is actually correct?"

Replied on Twitter but to add, I don't really think it's bad thing. Without the extra public realm, the stop would be moved by ~60m.

With the public realm, it's moved by ~125m but that allows for seating/trees/extra cycle parking.

Full liability for the tram test cases lies with the council. I wonder if they will now do something about the death trap they created.

Do the test cases cover claims after the dogleg was painted at Haymarket and so-called 'improvements' at junctions along Princes St?

Edinburgh’s controversial trams were responsible for more than 30 cyclists falling off their bikes in 2019, new figures have revealed.

I have a lot of time for the current administration but I find the appeal for 'patience' completely offensive. They didn't even bother doing anything until someone died!

Lesley Macinnes said people should be patient and wait for the tram “to become part of the environment”.

What's it part of at the minute? Hyperspace?

If thirty people a year presented at A&E having overturned their cars on the tram lines there would be a public enquiry and remedial action.

I would have guessed more than 30 in a year. I take it that's from Council stats of reported incidents?

Regretting reading the comments at the bottom of that article.

Does someone have (/could someone create) a photoshopped image of tram tracks as wide and as deep as car tyres (i.e. to show a car driver what it feels like for a cyclist to face a hole in the road as wide as their tyre and deep enough to get stuck in it) so that anyone on Twitter who says "cyclists just need to learn how to cycle properly" could get this image in response - "how do you fancy driving when you have a hole in the road as wide as your wheel?"

Work on taking the line from York place down Leith Walk and on to Newhaven was halted at the end of March when the lockdown was imposed.

Construction cannot start again until phase two of the government’s timetable for lifting restrictions, but site preparation can get under way.

The preparation of construction sites and project offices will see infection control stations being set up, along with additional water stations and toilet facilities for workers. Workspaces and facilities will also be checked to ensure they are set up appropriately.

Surely there can now be no business case for the trams in the post Covid world. Think what that budget could pay for in active travel for Edinburgh

Some rather questionable tram/cycle design that's part of a tram extension in the West Midlands: https://twitter.com/midlandtram/status/1266340774855282688?s=20

The question is, will they connect the new 2-way cycle lane in a safe and meaningful way to the new gyratory hellscape thingy?

The original TM plans only showed the cycle lane going as far as the extents of the tram works in this phase (just north of the London Road roundabout) - I imagine that won't have changed.
