Good grief, the Tory councillors really are the most shameless opportunists.

I always though the purpose of the tram inquiry was for its results to guide the next phase of construction. Glad they didn't bother waiting!

They've posted a map showing the progress so far, three sections are at the "track work" stage.

A line between the northern suburb and Princes Street via Roseburn was abandoned when Edinburgh’s tram scheme went massively over budget.

Long may it remain on paper otherwise we can kiss goodbye to the NEPN!

    Yep.

See STPR2 - Transport Scotland’s Second Strategic Transport Projects Review thread for details of ‘bigger picture’.

Will cheaper measures happen first or is the future yet more politician led grand (expensive) projects?

Or, more years of consultation, lobbying and little change?

Trams are off - assume due to snow. Buses running though.

Once it gets to Granton the tram is going to go up to Roseburn now in new report from financial forecasting firm PiInthiSki

Worth noting there was a new alternative option to bypass Granton and go via Orchard Brae/Queensferry Street. Dean Bridge presumably a physical and political challenge though.

Also will tram get to Granton via Newhaven or from City Centre first? I think the joining up circley bit is a lower priority now

Roseburn Viaduct is a fair bit narrower than the Dean Bridge. I wonder if there were any secret tram-strength-assessment tests going on when it was scaffolded-up for the recent parapet replacement works.

The document said that the on-road route would be cheaper as there'd be no need for lots of structure rebuilding. You'd hope the viaduct wouldn't be knocked down and replaced but seems like there was acceptance that a lot of structures investment would be required.

The timelines seem promising - September for a first business case. I would love to see a rolling programme where the current contractors moved on to Granton-South Ed as soon as the Newhaven line is finished but alas...

Talk of a Leith St link too, but interestingly not the cross city centre link that was in the City Centre Transformation. Perhaps that would be later?

Trams to Newhaven diversion sign. So bad it's good.

I assume Cllr Whyte forgot to post the other tweets where he explains how a major civil engineering project through a historic area being built during a global pandemic can be speeded up.

At the end of the video there's tenements where the gardens inside the triangular block have been replaced with flats! WT*???

I think that's here, off Montgomery Street and, as far as I can tell from old maps, there've been flats in there since the tenements were built circa 1900. The ones in the middle appear to have been rebuilt in the last 10 years, as student flats.
