    That sounds very positive…

However long I stare at the red bits in the top photo, I still don’t understand how it’s meant to ‘work’.

Must be worse on the ground?

Edinburgh trams: Hopes government could fund new tram route from Granton to Dalkeith

Trams could go via Edinburgh’s Orchard Brae instead of Roseburn

However, expansion of the network beyond the city’s boundary is likely to be many years off, with current estimations indicating the Granton to BioQuarter line would not be open until at least 2032. This would likely be completed by one contractor in two phases – Granton to city centre and city centre to BioQuarter – although it is not yet known which would come first.

Transport convener Scott Arthur said: "No decision has been made yet, but people do see the cycle route as being the default, whereas councillors will have to make more of a decision on that. Roseburn is attractive because it’s a former railway line, but there are accessibility issues there, whereas this newer route goes right through residential areas and may connect better for people. Orchard Brae would be more complex but could bring more benefits. Thanks

    This is actually quite exciting:

The development of a Metro/Light Rapid Transit network across Glasgow

    and

Light Rapid Transit connections between Fife and Edinburgh

Oh, whoops...those were priorities for investment set out in Strategic Transport Projects Review 1, published 13 years ago.

That Jago Hazzard guy was in Edinburgh a little while ago, and he's made a couple of interesting videos about the trams:

Kevin Lang, Liberal Democrat group leader, called on city leader Cammy Day to commit to not using any council tax income for the project at a City Chambers meeting on Thursday (December 15).

    https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/edinburgh-news/edinburgh-tram-extension-plans-should-25761589

Does that mean he is favour of congestion charging?

    Probably not

    Not Lab…

Responding, Cllr Day, Labour, agreed that there should "not be council tax money spent on this".

And he said the business plan for an extension would "commit to use fares from trams" to pay for the line, adding he hoped support would also come from Transport Scotland.

"I think money for a capital infrastructure project of this level needs to come from Transport Scotland and the governments that fund this council," Cllr Day said.

On time and on budget, the next stop is Shawfair:

Apart from the dubious claim there, why would anyone prioritise a line to an area served by a railway station?

WHY would CEC propose a project that goes into a neighbouring council that is more interested in building roads??
