    The thing is, the WGH was never served by railways: it didn't even make the transition from poorhouse to hospital until nearly 1930. It is where it is because you built poorhouses in faraway lands to keep one's city's fine upstanding citizens from mingling accidentally with the great unwashed, and Craigleith Station was a sufficiently long walk away. Replacing a railway with a walking and cycling path and replacing that with trams-to-WGH doesn't make the location any closer. Public transport has to serve trip generating locations as physically closely as possible.

    The NGH had a small station; while the EGH also found its situation because of its poorhouse history, it too didn't have a rail connection, but did have trams along Seafield Road.

    Route Broxburn mentioned, also to Shawfair.

    STR2 partly about “cross boundary” - presumably with policies for funding.

    Ms Ross said work to address defects discovered during construction, including the new cycling infrastructure on Leith Walk, will be completed over the next five weeks.

    Let’s be charitable and say the 5 weeks starts on Monday.

    Finished by 21st of July…

    They won "Public Transport Operator of the Year".

    The other shortlisted operators (from here) were:
    ▪ McGill’s (won in 2022)

    Edinburgh trams 'wouldn't have gone ahead if councillors weren't lied to on cost'
    A councillor claimed inaccurate cost estimates led to the disastrous tram project being approved - and said the city was “utterly betrayed" by officers who "lied".

    “Had we known that those pieces of information were not as they were about the fixed cost, we would not have approved the tram – and I can tell you that the tram would not have gone ahead because it would not have gotten through a vote in the council.” Cllr Mowat said the city was “utterly betrayed by those officers”.

    Would cancelling it have been a good thing for the city though? In 20 years if we have two or three more lines, we might be glad it got the system off the ground, as inflation further marginalises the excessive 2014 prices

    Problem is ‘experience to date” (with or without deliberate part-truths) makes advocating/implementing more tramlines MORE difficult.

    PLUS ‘financial climate’ AND continuing carcentricity - see Sheriffhall latest.

    Eh, that carbrain mentality would have been present regardless, and while some people - Councillor Backside Coverer there included - are still obsessing about The Cost and The Mismanagement etc etc, more and more these days when you speak to actual people who holds that opinion comes down to whether they have or haven't actually used the tram at all, with those that have IME recognizing that for all the faults of its delivery, it was a worthwhile project.

    I'd argue you'd have just as much trouble persuading the antis in a world where there was no "bad example" to point to, since you'd both be also lacking a tangible good example, and would still have people like the councillor there bleating about costs and inefficiency and bureaucracy because at the end of the day there's political advantage in being a negative nelly and "speaking out on behalf of hard-pressed motorists" etc - why would they be any better disposed towards big public transit projects in the current climate than they are towards active travel infra?

    We’re committed to achieving the highest safety standards, and this latest initiative builds on the work we’ve already done to make cycling near the tramway as safe as possible.

    This includes highlighting the importance of using the designated crossings and always crossing tramlines at a 90-degree angle to stop the cycle wheels from potentially getting stuck in the rail grooves.

    I appreciate the sentiment, but this is unhelpful. There are multiple designated "crossings" of tracks that are not at 90 degrees - even after much time, effort and money spent trying to "improve them". And "your lane" frequently has to change around obstructions e.g. stopped bus
