I hate CEC and I hate Edinburgh Trams' stupid, conceited, self-satisfied, blinkered handling of the whole project.

    Amen sister.

And once again, rather like the report on the consultation for Leith Drive, the language is border-line offensive. Scum Dismount.

I particularly like the way that the responder has so little general knowledge of the subject/area that they are unable to spell Gait... (assuming he was talking about the Hermiston Gait area and I'm not making a donkey of myself!!)
Sums up the whole thing really :-(

    Mmm, Crunchy Cream! Sounds alright!

I think Princess Street and Hermiston Gate are not far from St Andrew's Square.

It looks like they have chosen not to bother with the "Cycling wheeling ramp" on the steps that they have built between Carrick Knowe and the toucan crossing of Stenhouse Drive where the previous cycle route once was.

This is yet another example of the tram progress totally ingnoring the legal planning process and lying in the public meetings. When I complained that the direct cycle route was being replaced by steps I was assured that a wheeling ramp was to be installed on these steps and this was also shown in the planning application:

It seems that because it is Tram the Council feel happy to ignore legal process.

The steps themselves look very cheep with railings that look like scaffold poles. The diversion around the steps is much longer and convoluted with what looks like may wee ramps up and down, it seems like an appalling design, assuming it was designed and not just built however the contractor felt like.

Looks like another crossing where cyclists may or may not be expected to dismount??

    From the Design Statement,

"how the proposed tram design integrates with the surroundings of the site: ... Make provision for direct and continuous walk/cycleway connections with established routes, enhancing these routes if possible (TDM Appendix 7);"

    Hmmm...

But of course; This Is Edinburgh.

Revised drawing ULE90130-05-PLG-00302 suggests that the wheeling ramp on the main flight of steps is no longer required because of the additional crossing to the west. Still not impressed with the radius of all the turns - can't see too many tandems or monstrousbikes using that route by preference.

ps all the cities in Europe that have trams have been bombed by the British during World War 2. So we seem to be doing it to ourselves in Edinburgh! If you get my drift! Interfaces with pedestrians, trams, buses and cycling are all resembling bombsites!

Rabid Hamster - I see what you mean! (But just to be pedantic, Helsinki was bombed by the USSR and the local council runs an extensive tram network.)

Did we bomb Stockholm or was that USSR too?

And I don't think we bombed Spain, so that doesn't explain all the Spanish tram systems...

There was a photo posted somewhere here once showing one of Edinburgh's rare bomb craters on Lindsay Road, where the tram will no longer go...

Sweden was bombed by the USSR in WWII (says wikipedia) but only by accident...

@Rabid Hamster, quite a few were bombed by the Americans too.

EU funding explains a fair number of Spanish tram/metro systems (eg. Bilbao).

Back on topic! Name and grid ref the piece of interface infrastructure on the tram route, which (when finished) will most resemble a bombsite?

Edinburgh councillors to go on fact-finding trip to cities with trams

Seems a little bit late in the day to go on a trip to other cities to realise we've done it all wrong.

Sadly, the only things socialist in Scotland are the roads and bridges. Because everyone pays for them whether they use them or not, and demand is limited by queuing.

I pass it every day and was impressed by the room they have made for the turn up to the bridge. To me it looks absolutely fine, even for a big bike.

At either end of every Tram Stop there is a crossing over the rails. These crossings at the Tram Stops are for pedestrians and cyclists are not permitted to use these crossings. The Edinburgh Park Tram Stop has been located directly adjacent to the Train Station and the pedestrian crossing at the west end of the stop has been aligned with the station entrance. Alternative crossing facilities have been provided for cyclists to the west and east of this location.

A crossing point over the rail has been provided at the junction with Bankhead Drive. Cyclists can then use the road which runs along the south side of the Tram Stop to access Hermiston Gate Shopping Centre and the southern section of Cultins Road. This road has a 20 mph speed limit and regularly space speed cushions are also proposed as part of the Tram Scheme. To the west of the Tram Stop and new cycle route is under construction. This cycle route passes under the new Edinburgh Park Viaduct and connects to the roundabout at the entrance to the shopping centre.

I trust this is of assistance.

I don't think your correspondant "gets it". Yes there is a crossing point further down at Bankhead Drive towards the Sighthill Industrial estate, but that's a big diversion if what you want to do is go "straight on" up Cultins from the Edinburgh Park railway underpass.

"I don't think your correspondant "gets it"."

    No idea.

Clearly all the people who drew up the original plans and scrutinised them through the Scottish Parliament didn't.

    No surprise there.

    Basically comes back to -

'Whatever the original idea, things have moved on - more cycle friendly city(?) and more people/journeys on bikes.'

'So how are you expecting to enforce these idiotic and petty rules?' (P.s. L&B won't help.)

It's somewhat amusing that the council has invented itself a raft of new (and as you say petty and idiotic) bye-laws that there isn't much hope of a rather intransigent Police force enforcing. And by time tram comes around, it will be SPS, not L&B, so potentially even less local accountability of the law.
