    I know lots of us already consider this the one 'must-read' of the week, but in case there are any newbies who haven't come across it, our own sallyhinch has yet again written a brilliant, funny blog round-up for our delectation.

    Enjoy!

    I clicked on a couple of the links and found what has to be the most hilariously bad farcility I have ever seen.

    I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

    Clicking back through a few months of farcility of the months gives this one;

    My eye was drawn more to the arrangement of the rumble/slide strips.

    Firstly - the rumble side is in the "sensible" location across the cycle lane, to provide an audible warning of a hazard (the lane itself!). More importantly, look how much wider the spacing is of the ridge on the "slidy strip" side. I noticed this in Cambridge too, they are significantly further spaced apart than the ones that have appeared on the Broomhouse path.

    Warrington is a monument to car culture by the way. Roads are almost all dual carriageways with very few pedestrian crossings anywhere, particularly not at busy junctions. Consequently pedestrians are limited mainly to small groups of teenagers who get across these huge roads by running across screaming one at a time.

    Where cycle lanes are painted on to the road, motorists prefer to drive along in them no matter how wide the rest of the road is. Consequently cyclists prefer to ride on the pavements.

    The industrial estate where I was during my thankfully brief visit resounded to the roar and squeal of motors as drivers took full advantage of the lack of speed cameras or speed bumps. There was a pond in the middle of the estate which was actually lovely. The guy who took our course did not even know it was there since he only ever drove through in his car twice a day and had never been outside. I noticed it immediately walking.

    But I didn't see any h*lm*ts and only one instance of h*-v*z so Warrington must be cycle friendly right?

    Bloody horrible place.

    I've got the book from WCC, imaginatively called 'Crap Cycle Lanes'. Looking at some of the things on there, and on the link above, you do have to wonder.

    What were the people who designed these things thinking? I mean how could they possibly, ever, have thought that what they were doing was sensible?

    There are some on there that are worse than the lane on Eyre Place, and that's saying something.

    Perhaps WCC should do a FOI request to find out how many "engineers" have been sacked for gross incompetence for designing and signing off the facilities featured on their blog. Sadly I think it would be the opposite and they got promoted.

    It's surely vanity when one makes an extra effort to get a post out over the weekend and then searches the source code of the roundup for that elusive darkerside.org/... link.

    Small things...
