HYN to you and thanks for keeping the forum running efficiently in 2012!
Talking of 'efficiently'... we had to get a bus last night. Main stop at Usher Hall had a queue of people looking at indicator, mobile phones and not really being sure of where to get the 16 etc. Indicator displayed 'services diverted' but no indication of where to! Bus tracker just put out services as if they were running. We had LRT holiday sheet and that was no use either.
Walked up to Tollcross and got them all there. Now, if they had put that message on the stop.
LRT drivers were doing good job though explaining to people what the tech had not been able to convey. Maybe just me but you would think that the city would be expert at this by now(!). We could have cycled of course. Saw at least six people on bikes.
Anyway, we ended up walking home which is a healthy thing to do. No buses at 11 till the free ones started.Posted 12 years ago # -
YHN to you laid back
Sorry to hear that the bus info was defunct but interesting to note all the new alternatives to phoning Margaret on 555 6363. (I did love the rasp in her intonation tho) or just turning up at stop and hoping. Apps,i electronic lists etc

Happy New Gear, all. I had another quiet and civilised Hogmanay round at my sister's in Dundee.
I was thinking about using today's brilliant sunshine for a wee jaunt on Papa's budget hybrid, but I think I'll delay it until sunset in the hope the sky stays clear. Last chance for nae-kiddin' darkness for a while.

Top tip for new year - don't turn up at Glasgow Airport on New Year's day hoping for any sort of transport anywhere ... In the end it turned out cheaper and much faster to rent a car one way than to try and get home by public transport. (And incidentally the chap who rented it to us was a cyclist - 18 miles right through Glasgow every day, brave man).

Right. Thought Glasgow would have something at least. Glad you got sorted with something though.
Think I should have used the journey planner on LRT bus tracker app. That seems to be best bet for giving real info at this time of year.

Happy New Year fellow cycle folks. We just stayed at home and watched the TV and surfed the web - as per.

Mr wilmington's cow also captured the aurora borealis down porty last night. He might post on here if we are nice to him

I ended up in Inverleith Park with Tulyar to watch the fireworks and to make cups of tea on my camping stove.
No aurora that I could see. I really ought to get myself to a properly dark bit of the country.

I had a good ride out along the coast but with a huge amount of traffic.
It would be good if pledging reduce car mileage was a more popular NY resolution

Oh that would be nice!
Happy new year cycle folk.

Happy New Year all! Hopefully I will make it back up tomorrow and then get out on a bike after a full 10 days without cycling before resuming the commute on Tuesday...

HNY forumers! Got lift through floods on A924 to Pitlochry. Worst I have seen it. The A9 on way up was also pretty aquatic. Used Scotrail bus (as line kaput) to get to Perth. Now on train. 75 mile journey will take us around four hours but not bad considering.

Great praise though for CEC area teams by 0030. riding back along Roseburn Path, we noted it had been gritted the full distance.
Inverleith was good value we saw Castle, Holyrood 'echo' display, something over towards Gorgie, and a longer and more sustained effort from the valley of WoL below.
I enjoyed a 40 mile ride to get coach back from Brum on Boxing Day, which was magic riding by light of full moon - like a monochrome version of real life with blue tinge bike lights not needed to see the way. Prompts the thought of a recommended night ride on well dark roads - perhaps Central Scotland/Pentlands (as basically around 20 miles downhill to get home and in some cases a night bus option on Fridays/Saturdays).

Happy New Year!
Saw the Northern Lights from the mountaineering club hut up in the highlands and had two days of decent weather for walking up hills.Posted 9 years ago # -

Lang may chdot and CCE's cyberlums reek. Looking forward to another year of glorious pick'n'mix unhinged nonsense and laser-focus political action.

Happy New Year all! Fantastic cycle this afternoon between Glenelg and Corran, returning as the sun was setting. I've not spotted any kingfishers so far this year however...
